Are they rugged up??

I have a 6 month old traditional cob filly who isn't rugged. She is fed daily and has access to water/hay in the field. Plus is brought in for hay at the weekend.

She seems happy in her self and was bombing round the field bucking & rearing the other night trying to get Eccles to play with her.

Yet I've just had a call of my bf to say a woman has come on to the yard and told his mom that she is reporting me to the RSPCA as it's cruel that Willow doesn't have a rug on and that she could get heart problems/liver problems etc.

I don't own a foal but did have a duly coloured cob and he was naked for most of the year (fly rug in summer)
If your filly is happy and health I wouldn't panic
If the RSPCA do come just stay calm as you have nothing to hide and allow them to check on her and show them she has access to water food and shelter (maybe hedge but it's still some thing for her to get her self out of the wind under)

It's unlikely that it needs a rug on. And provided it has a constant access to good quality hay, and shelter I'm sure she'll be fine.

When the RSPCA call, invite them to come and see the pony willingly. You have nothing to hide.

Our yard has three shire foals and none of them are rugged or kept in and they are fine! As Amymay says, if the RSPCA call, invite them to see your horses, more than likely they will agree this woman is wasting their time and call her and tell her as much!

Should be absolutely fine depending on the horse. Make sure you feel around the base of her ears regularly as this is the best place to gauge their temperature. If she's cold (her skin, not her fluff) then get her a rug, if not just kindly explain to the RSPCA that she's clearly a tough nut and can easily deal with a bit of cold.

Nope none. All have ad-lib hay in feeders, 30acres and additional maize and oats put out for them daily.

They naturally have a double thickness coat for insulation - even the ones last year which had layers of snow on their backs....if you delved in and put your hand nearer their skin, they were still toasty warm underneath it all.
If we started rugging them, they'd be more cold as their coat layers would be flattened = less insulation.

A 'Polite' notice generally clears up matters. Or equally, I'd be delighted to meet the lady so concerned myself tbh.

Oh tell em to naff off. My pre filly has no rug on, she grew the perfect one for herself. Some people have no idea.

No breeder I know rug their foals, it's madness!

You have nothing to worry about, the RSPCA don't respond to issues that do need investigating, they won't be bothered about a rugless foal.

Native/cob/hunter foals don't need rugs. My cobxID foal has a coat that would put the honey monster to shame. Let nature do her job.
