what sort of sizing saddles do they have? im about to help out/sort of loan a nice 14.2 welsh pony only thing is in no way does his saddle fit, even tho saddler has supposedly adjusted it recently! hes quite chunky on the shoulders but very flat backed & no withers. with no withers,is he more likely to need something wide/extra wide? im used to high withered TB's so no idea. just wanted to look at options for him but as he's not mine, and i will only have him for 4-6 months want to see what i can find cheaply locally.

I had to buy an XXX wide saddle for my Welsh Cob, it was from the Native Pony Saddlery Co. and was quite expensive.
She is also quite flat backed and not withers at all when i first got her; she's changed shape now and i will need to get it re-flocked soon.

The first saddle i tried on her was a X wide and looked huge but once on her looked like a pea on a drum!

its very hard to fit a saddle to this kind of pony i should know i have one its really akward
i brought a cob size saddle and still no progress it slips up the shoulders
so i was planing to buy a wintec with changeable gullet to c if this works its a pain in the a***

I have an XWide Thorowgood saddle that is brill and easy to sell on again if you need to. Mine is a Welshie D.

i have an extra wide thorogood cob saddle made just for cobs has an extra girth strap for a better fit i had it fitted to him he is 14.2hh cob

There's not a word to describe his width. Imagine a table with four people and a picnic on it and you'll be getting close. No withers and huge shoulder. Thus we're treeless.

Tricky aren't they. You can just make out mine in my avatar. He's only just 15.1hh and Mike (my instructor who's on board) is 6'2" - so you can work out how wide he is given Mike's feet aren't trailing along the ground!!

I have a 14.2hh connie x warmblood with no withers, bum high and no shoulder- we have a 17" Ideal working hunter in XW for flat and a wintec close contac with the wide gullet for jumping.

Her Ideal fits her perfectly and is incredibly comfy

my rather cobby lad is rather round and very deep however he has a MTM saddle that comes up as approximately a Medium Wide when measured against other saddles of known sizes. However mine has a good shoulder and a good wither on him. Have you had a master saddler to him? not just a saddle fitter. A proper fitter should ask to see the horse ridden in the saddle not just plonk it on his back.
