Those of you with Cushings horses....

Well, he was a very good boy for his bloods today. Vet said she thinks my inkling is bang on the money, as she has seen horses present like him before, one being her own. So it's just a case of seeing how his results read, and going from there

Ponies I tested one who was just footy all the time even on no grass at all, the other didn’t moult.

I also had a 13 yr old TB who I tested. I’d clipped him in Autumn and by June he still looked very smartly freshly clipped. I’d been smug all winter when everyone else was re-clipping all the time!

Reading these replies are interesting as mine displays some of these - is or can be lethargic, sweats a lot doing nothing, runny eyes. He's been tested but all fine.

We took mine off Prascend a while ago, as he never actually tested positive but was going through a funny phase of not eating Prascend. All his symptoms came back but his blood results were negative - he went back on it and we found tastier food to hide it & all symptoms disappeared again.

If you think yours might be symptomatic, it's worth having a chat with your vet to see if you could trial Prascend.

Wow interesting. I don't think he is - he has always been very weird and nothing much has changed in the 16 years that I've had him.

What made you first think they need a test?
The bay boy has just not come out of winter quite right, and I'm wondering if it's something like Cushings, or, if anyone has any other ideas that would be appreciated...
He's come out ribby, which is fine, because when I got him 2 years ago he was horrendously fat, so him coming out of winter with less padding is fab. He's moulting, but patches are bald. They other two are moulting but have coat underneath, he's got broken/no coat. I had to clip a part of his neck in early winter because he cut himself and I couldn't see it clearly with the fluff, and that hasn't really grown back, it still looks like I've clipped him, very patchily! Other than this, he's well in himself, not lethargic, he's an appetite with legs, and he's bright and engaging with me and his herd mates, and anything going on over the hedge he thinks needs a nosey. This hasn't been my experience with other Cushings horses who've all been flat, can't shift weight or lose coat etc.
Thanks for reading

ETA, I've checked him and the others thoroughly for lice and other skin issues, and nothing has come of that, so I don't think the patches are due to a parasite
Odd as this might sound, have you considered it might possibly (outside guess) be alopecia. I know someone who had a Jack Russell who developed it and he was dreadfully bald, especially his poor tail. So skinny with no hair on it. Just an idea to throw into the ring.

So his results came back today, in the negative at 17.1. Since writing this post he has started to look better, less like he's been chewed by rats! Maybe just a hard winter for him? I'll be keeping an eye on him now, and may do a yearly screen when teeth etc are done

That’s good news. Hopefully his coat will
come through. I think a lot seem to be holding off a nice summer coat yet.
