Those of you with hose pipe bans....

Hose :) The ban doesn't apply to livestock and assuming you don't take the pee I can't see a problem with using a hose to rinse off. Mind you the ban seems to have acted like a rain dance because we've had rain everyday since it came into force :rolleyes:
 
We have a ban here, but we have never been allowed to have or use a hose pipe for anything apart from the water tanks. So nothing different for me, I fill up a great big tub of water and shampoo and with a sponge go over my horse in the normal way, refill up the tug with clean water ready to rinse. I use either a watering can or a large fabric conditioner bottle to rinse off the soap and suds, it takes a little longer but no great shake really. Just one of the strange little quirks of the yard but having never been able to use one here do not miss the luxury of it lol, give it a go really easy.
 
Did look this up on Environment Agency website, which says it doesn't apply to the welfare and maintenance of livestock. That's fairly woolly, but I would take that to mean hosing down a hot horse is fine and even bathing it.
News reports have also indicated they have no means of policing ban. Think it's useless window-dressing politics, to be honest.

Yes, this is not prohibited under the ban.


This is the response I got when I emailed them. So I would say yes but get it in writing if you are a different provider. I really only wanted to fill up the water rather than dragging buckets around if needed.
 
Funny reading this as we are livestock under some things but when it comes to fields etc we are horses and not agricultural etc(sorry digression)!
 
Horses aren't covered by the ban, but we should all be careful. If anyone is in any doubt that water levels are down, go look at your local rivers (I know round me the levels are as low as they were at height of summer last year).

We don't have a hose pipe on the yard...

Big bucket of water...sponge horse wet...shampoo n' scrub/sponge...refill bucket with clean water...use watering can or jug to rinse...

Probably takes longer but a hose pipe and all that water isn't essential...

Absolutely...and I'm in Wales where we have plenty of rain but we're still low...

I do think there should be way more consideration of water conservation or we might be revisiting stand pipes in the streets and water being cut off for most of the day that isn't solely a result of long heat waves... Would rather not...
