Who do you insure your property with? Just had renewal through and seems excessive but I'm not sure if the 'run of the mill' insurance companies will cover stables etc

i used to insure through shearwater, but now insure through county insurance in kirtlington in oxfordshire.. increased the cover for less premium! shop around!

Thanks for those - am shopping around as we speak

any ideas on what you put in for "rebuild cost of property" - they are all asking for this not value of property - haven't got a clue how much it would cost to rebuild!

If you pick up a copy of "housebuilding and renovating magazine", there is (or at least used to be) a section at the back which estimates build costs by region, size and quality ie standard housing estate v one off project with bespoke kitchen/bathroom/staircase etc.

I'm also insured with NFU. When we upped our build insurance due to new (substantial) extension, they sent a loss adjustor to clarify the amount. He accepted the amount once he saw what we had done.
