...how are they? I'm looking for a hat to wear for general schooling here in Hong Kong, my current non-vented one is now fairly disgusting from the amount of sweat (I tend to finish up riding with soaked hair to about halfway down my ponytail with the heat and humidity here, yuck!!!). The Uvex looks good and I like the idea of a removable lining that you can wash.

I know a few people on HHO bought one recently so I was hoping for a few reviews :D

Also, where's the best UK shop to get them from (online)?

Fabulous, I love mine. Light, comfy, smart, keeps my head cool and doesn't give me headaches. But I got in in Germany, can't help with a UK supplier sorry.

I have a Uvision, it is extremely light and very well ventilated, so well ventilated that I swap for a warmer hat in the winter! Not washed the liners so cannot say if they come up good or not (must do it though). So far no UK distributors/retailer so mine was ordered direct from Germany. Sizing is adjustable via a dial at the back which is useful, do sometimes tweek mine.

This is where I ordered mine from

I alos have the Uvision. Very lightweight and nice fitting. I can't quite feel the wind rushing through my hair but I imagine it's better than a non-ventilated hat!

This hat looks amazing (sorry to hijack the post!) but is there a reason you can't get them in the uk? Do they have an EN safety standard that's acceptable? Are they competition legal for BD? :)

That all sounds very promising, definitely shopping time :D

LowenKi - they are de rigeur for top dressage riders who have decided to ditch top hats, so I assume they would be FEI legal at least, not sure about BD but no doubt someone else on here could help.

Yes they are EN certified to the current standard and fine for BD. No idea why they are not available in the UK.

There will soon be a UK supplier - a supplier I know has told me he plans to stock them in the near future. I bought mine over at Aachen CHIO last year directly from Uvex and they were very helpful and thorough at making sure I got exactly the right fit. I love my Uvex hat - it's so lightweight and comfortable and yet I feel really safe in it too. I know people that have fallen off in them too and say they are protective (I know some people are sceptical about the protection they offer, but I'm one of the safety-conscious "must wear a hat" brigade and I feel fine in them). I also love the little dial at the back of your hat which allows you to alter the fit really easily - great if your shape/size can depend on how you have your hair! I honestly can't recommend it enough!!!

I have the Uvision, and I have had a fall in it, I think it protected me pretty well! In terms of comfort, I had to wear my old GPA to ride a client's horse the other day as that was all I had in the car, and my word was it hot, heavy and sweaty - reminded me how lovely my Uvex is.

They are permissible for BD. Absolutely everyone wears them in Germany now, unless they are in a top hat. The more expensive ones are stunning, and you can get gorgeous blingy ones if that floats your boat. Mine is plain navy, but I'm tempted to treat myself to a fancy one.

I have a teeny tiny head so need kids sizing - does anyone know if they do any without flowers / ponies on the side

Leg end, because they are adjustable, they don't use traditional hat sizing. You buy them in standard sizes.
mine is an xxs-s, which correlates to between 52-55cm, or 6 1/4 - 6 7/8 in traditional terms (I usually wear a 6 7/8ths).

I had a Uvex then had quite a bad fall in it. I ended up with a severe lump on my head where the vent is, the vent caved in onto my head.
The swelling came down from the lump & i ended up in a right mess for 2 weeks, 2 blacks eyes & my face was so swollen it really frightend me plus i didnt feel well either.

I will never wear any hat again that isnt up to a high safety standard, ive since bought a ProTector & tbh it iant to bad heat wise. But personally i would rarther have sweating than go through what i did again.

Ive got two Uvex Uvision helmets (one is the fern anthracite which I use for every day and the other is navy which I wear for competing in). I love them, they are so light and comfortable and easy to fit etc.

I actually had a very serious fall in one aswell, but mine saved my life. I came off headfirst into a post and rail fence at speed (broncing twisting youngster) and then landed head first on the floor (whilst my ankle got bent and smashed into the fence also). I wasnt even knocked unconscious, I had a small red lump on my forehead but that was it. Everyone who saw couldnt believe I was still awake because of the force I landed. My ankle didnt come off so well, but i've no doubt that the Uvex saved my head/brain :)

It sounds like you're ok if you land on the right part of the hat... Does anyone know what sort of testing has been done (I'm sure I read on another thread a while back that there are different levels of testing)?

Food for thought, but it's good to hear that yours has been very protective Tempi. I generally land on my (ample) backside when I fall but I still want my head to be well protected!
