Interested to know how you feed, how much and where you get it from...

Have an ulcer prone horse (recently finished gastro guard and doing well) he's out 24/4 on a high fibre/low sugar & starch diet, gets alltech lifeforce and looks fantastic, but have seen lots of people mention adding bicarb to ulcery horses... So what do you do/how do you do it??

I add two table spoons to each of her meals, so since she has 5 meals, she gets 10 spoons.

I've seen people putting it in the water as well but I hate adding stuff to water - if they don't like the taste you risk having your horse drinking less water than it should.

As for where I buy it from, I get mine from a regular supermarket.

Hyperdrug sell fairly large quantities at a reasonable price. I only feed 2x 15ml scoops, but not feeding for ulcers.

thanks both, think i'll grab some from the super market and start off with small amounts and see how we get on.

I feed 2 heaped 15ml scoops per day (morning and night feed). Get mine from hyperdrug online.

Horse had ulcers and is prone to hind gut acidosis  so was maintained on Rite-trak until insurance money ran out (largely bicarb - although a buffered version apparantly, and a couple of other ingredients but at £150 for 50 day supply ). He was being fed 2 60ml scoops per day of this so I wonder how much more plain bicarb I could feed him, but he's doing well on current amount and showing no grumpyness or footy-ness (both key indicators of his gut health, or lack of!).

Thanks for this!

if you're looking for a good ulcery supplement, the alltech Lifeforce has been brilliant, and is especially good for the hind gut!

I got 5kg for £10 or thereabouts. I feed the same as above. To test the theory I just bought some from the shop and then ordered from hyperdrug when I saw the difference.
