Do you use knee boots?
My horse slipped on the road yesterday when we were out (didn't hurt himself tho) but as it could have been worse I've decided to get him some knee boots, however no one I know uses them and the tackshop weren't particularly helpful (and they only had one set). So I am after some reccommendations from you guys as they seem to be completely out of fashion!
Thanks

I use jeffries leather ones on my little lad :)

eta - I have a set of neoprene ones for my old cob, but they've always slipped on everything that's worn them. He doesn't wear any as slipping knee boots are worse than none at all imo! I find the leather ones are much better for that.

Nope, never have. My horse did slip over on the road a few years back though and I ended up with a broken collar bone (he was ok). only last weekend I was hacking and musing over how people wore knee boots and was thinking in reality how many horses actually slipped on their knees (mine slips behind so has studs in). Two days later my mum was hacking him out and he slipped on to his knees and she went over his head! I thought that was pretty bizarre seeing as in 17 years he's never done that and also it happened just after I had been randomly thinking about it!

Not sure I'll resort to knee boots quite yet though as that's the first time in over 25 years of riding one of ours has ever slipped on to their knees!

ladyt, I guess it partly depends on how concerned you are about the aesthetics and potential scarring - most people I know who use them do so to prevent cosmetic damage, rather than actual injury (other than one girl whose horse skinned itself during a competition and now uses them to prevent it happening mid-competition again). Thats certainly why I use them on the highland (who I plan to show at reasonable levels, one day, maybe? :p) but am less worried on the cob who is bored witless by showing and therefore doesn't do it anymore...

thank you for all your replies, I will have a look into the suggestions.
Its not cosmetically I'm worried about (he has more than enough scars to be laughed out of a show ring any day!) it's as he is so accident prone and unuckly, I can almost guarentee if he were to do it again and go right down, it would end up with the worst injuries which would most likely then get infected!!

Yup, I use the westrop knee/brushing boot ones. They are really good, easy to put on, unlike conventional knee boots they do not have to be strangulation tight to stay in place.

I tried with a few different types of neoprene ones and they all slipped down (causing mr stressy to panic!) - so wouldn't really suggest those as i know a couple of people who have experienced the same thing. Obviously depends on the make though.
I've heard really good things about the westropp brushing/knee boots, was planning on getting myself some but then he put himself out of work for a year so never got round to it!
