...or will be having a very quiet one with no visitors - several dogs' homes are looking for temporary foster homes for their animals over the festive season. Just thought it was worth mentioning as it wasn't something I would have thought of, and there might be someone on here who would enjoy some company who might not otherwise be able to under normal circumstances.

I didn't know, that's interesting. Problem for me is that I don't think I'd be able to send one back. Having said that, I might to be able to take on a couple of cats permanently.
Thanks for posting dollyanna.

Try googling "foster dog for christmas shropshire" or something similar, I came across it on fb somewhere and I'm sure that was the Mayhew, but when I googled many of the smaller local rescues were also asking. Try just getting in touch with local rescues and see if any of them have someone who would benefit from a couple of weeks out of kennels?

I know Dog Samaritans in the Ludlow area are always looking for foster homes, might be worth contacting them if you are in the south of the county.
