Those who attend dog training classes???

Never took Rox to classes and deeply regret it! I did have her name down for the vet lead ones but they never got back to me and stupidly as my pregnancy was progressing rather rapidly so never got round to looking up private classes for her. As a result she will only sit give paw and recall 80% of the time as that's all I've managed to teach her without help and my limited knowledge of training dogs :(

So in answer to your question from another perspective I'd be prepared to pay up to £20 for an hours one to one working through her behaviour and being shown better ways of training her to get her to respect me and what I'm asking of her

Very interesting reading all these replies!

When I first got Maisie, went onto the KC website looking for trainers in my area. Phoned one, had long chat, sounded fine so went along the next week (had then had M for a fortnight). Was in a dark and dingy indoor school, paid £40 up front for 4 weeks, then straight away had to do walk to heel round the school. Well M didn't have a clue, was pulling towards other dogs, the trainer stormed over, grabbed her lead and really yanked her around, shouting at her :( Stayed for the rest of that lesson, but never went back. Did notice that all the other owners looked tense and worried all the time, no talking or laughing at all, I know it's training but surely have to have a bit of fun as well?

£6 a year membership and £2 per dog per night for a one hour class.

One class covers beginners (heel on lead, basic recall, sit and down stays) then the next class covers more advanced heelwork, stays, novice and A recalls and dumbell. The third class covers dogs working B and C and includes positions, distance control and scent. The first class can have 20 odd dogs in it but the more advanced classes usually have about 10 dogs each.

I do another class (same trainer, different hall) where it is £5 for a 2 hour session. That is focused on competitive obedience. 8 of us are in that class.

I am about to start a basic obedience course using clicker training with my younger collie and once I've done the 6 week course I can move onto another 6 week course doing Heelwork to Music (well seeing I dont have a social life that doesnt involve 4 legged things!). These courses are £55 for 6 one hour sessions. Maximum of 6 dogs per class.
