Do you feed something like Blue Chip Pro (pre-biotic and pro-biotic - I think I've got that right!) along with your straights?

We're going onto mixed flakes, oats, and barley - I'm under advisement, so don't fret, I'm not about to fry the neds' brains lol.

LC - doesn't need any help putting on weight, but needs stamina and buzz;

LL - sometimes needs a bit of oomph (yup, you read that right lol), but puts on weight easily;

Dizz - currently is on the Pro and the Outshine with some Alpha A Oil and oats (soaked when I remember!).

When we used to (old coachman was in the dark ages a bit saying there aren't any mixes relavent for us... I love our boys but they're not that special) We didn't feed any supliaments but it was already like making a witches potion with all the different bits!

You should feed a vit/min supplement, not neccesarily pro/pre biotics. Calcium to phosphorus ratio of cereals is poor, so a greater requirement for calcium is needed to balance it. Alfalfa and sugar beet are good sources of calcium.

Barley is higher in energy than oats but energy from oats is released quicker following digestion. So if you want oomph feed oats. Oats are also higher in fibre than other cereals so better for the gut.

Lol, I love the witches potion bit of it (it must be the cauldron lol).

QR: If feeding oats then you need a vit/mineral balancer or supplement

Blue chip is one (very expensive).
Baileys do a good one, as do D & H I think.

You could also feed something like pink powder, if you were not wanting to make the feeds too big.

I feed soaked sugar beet and soaked oats to my two with seaweed powder (it STINKS!). I don't like premixes - or the price I would have to pay for them. I buy my seaweed from Progressive Earth on e-bay for £2.49 for 900g.

Mmmm.... if only we could pot what some of the boys here are on -I'd make a fortune! There appears to be very little grazing, only a handful of Healthy Hooves and F4F, but still behaving like a five year old jigging, jogging, spooking and making mummy resort to desperate measures!

In the winter I feed soaked oats and alfa cubes, they have the usual mineral/salt licks but no supplements at all, broodies go onto stud mix in the last trimester. Haven't killed them yet and they all come out of winter pretty well.

I don't feed in the summer, they'd explode.

We feed straights, and I also 1/2 scoop of a mix to straights. I feed "keep me sound" with it, mainly because I want the hoof and joint extras

I feed extra barley to merlin, and it appears to be working as he has loads more energy!

I feed straights to my old girl - micronised barley, veg oil and sugar beet. In theory I should feed a vit/min supplement with it, but I don't as she seems to be doing very well on that alongside good quality haylage and grass.

I would think it would be worth continuing the Blue Chip Pro or some similar source of probiotics/prebiotics with Dizzy though, bearing in mind all she has been through I suspect she would benefit it.
