Do you ever feel nervous when your loan horses owner visits?

I have 2 horses, one owned and one on loan.
The one on loan I have had for a while and she wants for nothing, however she has not been ridden for a while over winter due to bad weather and my circimstances and she does not look fantastic (loss of muscle, put on a little weight, very hairy and scruffy looking!)

She is a happy healthy pony but I cant help feeling slightly nervous that her owner is coming to visit and im worried she will think badly of me because the pony is not the toned fit pony she left me. I have explained that I have not worked her and she was fine with it saying it didnt matter (pony is on loan as a hacking pony) but I still feel terrible! I also feel the need to scrub everything ready for our 'inspection'

The owner has not visited in a year!

Do any other loaners feel like this?!

I am the other side, I'm the owner. Really don't give two hoots if the horse is covered in mud- went to see mine today and she was ditched

Felt really awful asking to see her unrugged, cos I do trust them! But she's nice and fat so really pleased

As long as the horse is happy and healthy, really don't care if it's muddy

No, I've never really worried about it. My loan horse is also not being ridden, she is having 18 months off to recover form a stifle injury and is in foal so she is a complete mud monster, her owner knows this and has always been really supportive of any choices I have made.

Of course I make sure that the yard and ponies are as spick and span as they can be for an owner's visit, but to be fair I would do that if anybody was visiting

I've got my one out on loan and try not to be a picky owner! I'm so happy with how she is and regularly keep up to date on fb and always get texts etc from them, so it's all good

But yeah...I'd feel the same if it was me on the loaning end too!

The horse I lost in 2008 was on loan, I never felt worried when her owner came to visit but we had a good relationship which when she did have to be put down made things alot easier for all of us. I would certainly loan again xx

I have my mare on full loan and I do feel like it too lol.
Because shes a lightweight cob, and they ride arabs and come from a yard full of TB's etc, everytime they come up I get so worried as when they ride they always comment on how "fat" she is etc because there not used to her no more. Ive had her nearlly 2 years and shes fine! But I havnt been able ride either because the weather, and also she now lives out 24/7. I do my best but I still feel horrible when they come up incase I feel like im doing something wrong lol. Im not but im always on edge lol.

xx

The grey in my siggy is on loan as a companion. Given the owners have never visited in 6 years I think I would faint if they did

Mind you they have never rung either so I doubt they will get around to it now.

I'd gather up and print out a few of the best photos you have of her fit and in full form last summer and just say 'thought you might like a few photos of her to keep' just as reassurance she isn't going to look like that all year! Can't see what you can have done differently given the rubbish weather we've had.

Mine is on full loan and I would count her owner as one of my best friends!!
The mare was to much for her so she put her on loan (quirky TB bought out a field) we talk daily, go for drinks and she is coming to my first ode to offer support, infact she's driving me in her trailer!! Comes to see her whenever and is just so pls'd that she found the rite person for her.
On the other side she comes to me for help took me with her when she was looking for her next one, always bounces thoughts and idea's of me
It truly is the most perfect relationship

Have had mine on loan for about 3 years and just over a year ago he was gifted to me. His old owner is a really close family friend but i really worry still when she comes to visit him.
The last time she came out to the field with me to bring him in and it was chucking it down luckily so when i shouted he came galloping over lol she thought it was just cause he was pleased to see me but he hates getting wet.

Hi - I'm another owner whose boy is out on full loan -(i moved abroad, and didn't want to put him through the journey). I never mind a bit of mud, and completely understood the reduced muscle tone when I was back at christmas. It is far more important to me to see how loaner interacts with him, and his attitude towards her (although it was a bit upsetting when he whickered to her, and not me as he used to!). Ultimatley, as an owner, I want my loaner to do her best for him - i fully appreciate that her way may not be my way 100% of the time, but that may not always be a bad thing! Just act naturally, and try not to worry - if they didn't trust you, you wouldn't have their horse! Good luck greywelshie - but you won't need it, you are obviously treating the pony like your own - they can't expect more from you... let us know how it goes
