If I had to go out of my way significantly, ad assuming we're not talking about someone whose helped me out loads etc, then I'd expect them to cover the whole cost of the out of the way part of the journey, and then half the rest of the fuel. I often give people on the yard lifts without charging fuel if we're only going a short distance because they help me out in other ways. I think you're being pretty nice doing 34 miles out of the way, I wouldn't!
