Mine has just arrived! Along with the usual gumph and membership card

Mine came yesterday.
I notice this year you're not allowed any sheepskin on the bridle- no nosebands or cheekpieces.

I think that is a bit harsh - I remember reading about Chatham and he would not jump ditches without his on just think if that rule was in now he would never have gone 4*. Also WFP and a few others are massive fans of a sheepskin noseband on the final day of a 3 day.

They were talking about it at Barbury, saying it's just impossible to regulate it if you set a maximum width so BE and FEI were just going to ban it all.

I can understand that and they cannot give a monopoly to one supplier. Though the FEI has potentially missed out on a money making scheme by not producing them themselves!

I knew about the cheekpieces - didn't know about the noseband. Better go and check, I have half a sheep in my tackroom that may be rendered useless!

Just a thought about the new Membership cards that act as car passes. I was going to stick mine in my car last night and that's where it would have stayed until I realised that it had my name on it. No way am I leaving that stuck in my windscreen. A bit rubbish really.

Beaglers are not allowed for BE80, BE90 or BE100.
For the membership card you can stick the holder on your windscreen without the card in - just put the card in when you need it.
I couldn't see anything about light coloured gloves.

Just checked on-line and it still just says gloves not what colour.
Also interesting in that it says that if your hat comes off during the dressage it must be replaced immediately or you will be eliminated. In the past when top hats came off the rider just collected them at the end. Now someone will have to pass them the hat or they will have go get off to retrieve it.

they could have at least done a freepost reply on the envolope!

That's an interesting point SteveGG - I wonder how many people will do this though?! (and how many judges would notice the rule change?)

Stupid beagler rule..........**mumbles grumpily to herself and slinks off to enter more dressage**

My thoughts exactly... it's also an encouragement to do more unaffil at that level (unless RC/PC run of course!).

Hopefully they may yet have a rethink, will just have to upgrade to Novice in double quick time!!!

Do you really mean that the "no beagler at Intro/PN" will stop you doing BE and/or make you move up to Novice faster than originally planned?! Each to their own and all, but that mentality seems a bit daft to me!

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the beagler look though, so that may have some bearing!

Glad that dark gloves are still ok at BE, although will still need a cheap light coloured pair for unaff DR as they're sticking to BD rules.

I have a black jacket, guess I've not much option other than white, do I?

Heck no, was said tongue in cheek!!!!!

I wouldn't push my horse up the levels too quickly just for that, or for anything in actual fact. Am just feeling a bit sore as I only treated myself to a beagler in September so only got to wear it at one BE event! Still, I mix it up with unaffil anyway as Stockland Lovell run their unaffil round the BE course, same with West Wilts and both are within two hours of me!

No i was joking too really. It won't stop me doing BE at all, i'll probably just get as much dressage in as possible so i can wear it. I only got my birthday last May so i want to make the most of it.

The whole rule just annoys me

I think that I agree with others that have posted previously the riders should be responsible enough to decide if it safe to ride in a beagler or not.
When I first took OH's horse out I wouldn't dare wear my Patey and also had a neckstrap just in case. Now I am quite happy to wear the Patey. I will just have to remember BE which horse I'm riding - I'm bound to forget at some point.
Out unaffiliated dressage the other day I had to get a pair of light coloured gloves - as usual show centre didn't have anything that really fitted (nothing larger than a 7) so instead of buying a smart pair I spent £1.49 on a cotton pair! At least with BE not applying the rule I won't need to buy a decent pair for a while.

Ah, ok! Can understand it would be super frustrating to have just bought a new expensive hat and not be able to wear it though!

Apologies for the blonde moment!

That's okay! Believe me it is uber frustrating, spent months deliberating and then they bring this rule in, grrrr.

Daft imo, surely adults can make their own decisions - took my mare BD the other week and as she's been hyper recently and not been out in ages took both hats with me so could decide which to wear depending on her mood. As it happens she was super chilled so wore the beagler but if she'd been on her toes would have put on my "protective headwear".

The rule regarding the hat coming off. Is that really going to apply to top hats. I can really see WFP stopping in the middle of his test at badminton because his hats been blown off. I can understand with beaglers as they are supposed to be fitted so they dont come off. Also is anyone going to check that peoples crash hats fit properly. While were being a nanny sport I think this is more improtant than the people who wear proper Patey hats that are fitted for them. I know my patey fits better than my crash hat.

yes the rule should apply to Top Hats. They will stay on during high wind or jolts if worn and fitted correctly. We need to stop riders saying that wil do and stuffing the hat with paper.

I was told my ME-S that they would do some research into problems around the dressage then look at the results. This was not done. Watch out we could end up like Australia, all because people wear beaglers and hats with starps cut off. A Patey is not a beagler it is a Hunt Cap, approved by the MFHA for hunting. All huntsmen are insured when wearing their Patey. Wear your Patey with Pride!!
