Ok so have read lots on stomach ulcers, and have a nagging doubt in my head that Pidge may have them. He gets very grumpy when grooming under his belly. But is generally a very social chap. I'd even thought perhaps of trying him on some coligone what do you think?
I have spoken to my vets about it and they don't think there is a problem.

Lots of horses are very sensitive under their belly and dislike being groomed there. I would say that if this is the only sign then he is not telling you he has ulcers he is asking you to use a softer brush

so I'm worrying for nothing then

I tend to use my hand to clean the mud off, and let him grab the grooming brush if he's really grumpy

probably, like others said, just sensitive!

if he had bad ulcers, he would possibly grunt a lot when ridden (my horse bugsy does that) and possibly start cribbing to ease the pain (thats why bugsy cribs as he has ulcers, he didnt get ulcers because he cribs, it is the other way round. a common misconseption

so he is on coligone)

i wouldnt worry

he doesn't crib but does always like a damn good roll straight after eating breakfast so usually gets evicted from his box before he does roll and makes a mess
