Idle question, when you do up the buckle, which way do you have the point of leather facing?

This inoccuous (ridiculous?) question stems from a discussion this morning at friends yard over coffee. A woman there was getting quite vociferously OCD about it! I just grinned :lalala:

My Poppy has the point on hers facing to the off side :D
 
Ummm. I think ours points offside. But when showing it is irrelevant as no buckle! Sneaky airedales with heads the same side as theirs necks require half check collars at all times or you have free running nutters without collars! Buckle is essential though as it goes up or down a hole depending on whether he has been stripped or not ;)
 
Collar done up with the dog facing me and the point pointing to my right. And always third hole from last :p

With slip collars/leads or chains, the ring will always be on the quick release side depending on what side the dog is being lead on. If I swap the side the dog is on, I also switch the collar or lead. Makes my teeth itch if they're on the wrong way round...
 
Quick releases just don't work properly if they're on the wrong way round! Drive me potty, not that slip leads are hugely successful with the airedale as he enjoys strangling himself and then slipping out backwards when you release the lead - clever monster dog!
 
Must admit I find it immensely satisfying that littledog is shown on a 'cocker loop' with a built in swivel so no need to change it over like a slip lead, because a slip lead on the wrong side would irk me even more than non symmetrical buckle collars do. :p

Bigdogs wear semi-slip collars, no fastenings at all.
 
I do buckle collars up one way - clockwise - my other half does them up anti-clockwise, so annoying :p :D :D Luckily the hound's house collars are clip ones.... :)
 
any way but have very little excess.always changing collars because i buy the padded ones and they tug each other nibbling the lining :(
 
Would a buckled collar be more easily fitted either left or right, depending which way 'handed' we are? The only buckled collars which I've ever used have been fitted to greyhounds, and with the dog standing on my left, and the collar buckled to the lead, so I've always found it easier to have the collar (imagining that we're facing the dog) going clockwise.

This woman said to fasten 'correctly' you stand beside dog, with dog on your left.
Hold collar and ensure the point is in your left hand so the buckle part drops to the right (off side ).
Then do up.

Never ever gave it a thought before, was far more interested in watching the huge 2 pigs in the next paddock having a hose off :D
 
perhaps it is a showing `thing` similar to bridles where the cheek piece,noseband and throat lash buckles all need to be in a nice line with the horses eye?
 
Both mine (flatties) have rolled leather buckle collars and I have absolutely no idea which way they are done up. Both dogs asleep (at last) so not going to check.

Think that woman needs to get a life. :p
