How do you feed them?

Aled will eat anything, and literally inhales his food. When we first got him, as he'd lived all his life in a bungalow, he never ventured upstairs, so we fed the cats up there. They have biscuits down all day, and their meat of an evening. This has worked well for several months, but now Aled goes upstairs, and will just eat all their food. He's very good in so far if they are eating he will wait, but as soon as they finish, he's in there.

At the moment, we are leaving their biscuits at the back of the worktop, and feeding their meat up there too, but as they are 13 and 14 respectively, and not been allowed on the worktops, it is a bit confusing for them, plus I don't overly like feeding them up there.

Your OH is pretty handy - could he make you a child gate with a cat sized hole in it? You may remember we have a permantent wooden gate here between the front and the back of the house, how about something like that but with a gap at the bottom?

Iv'e got 6 cats and 2 dogs, i had a small utility room with a cat flap in the last house but with this one i have just given over one of the worktops to the cats for their food bowls. I like Clodaghs idea but a permanent gate would probably annoy me and it would have to be massive, pretty certain mine can clear 6 ft, especially for cat food!!

Clodagh, I did think about a stair gate, but he would probably just bulldoze it down :)

We do have a cat flap in the back door; which leads into the back porch where the litter tray is, but obviously he goes out that way (when door open) to get into the garden.

Will have a think, some good ideas, thank you.

Cats had a cat flap in the conservatory and were fed in there with the sliding doors closed, so greedy puppies couldn't harass them or steal food.

Ours is like a garden gate, on hinges. We have it because the dogs are confined to the 'farm' part of the house during the day but if we shut the connecting door we lose all that Aga heat. Would be beyond Aled to destroy it I am sure. :-)
And Shady, it is a bit annoying but less annoying than 3 labs worth of hair, mud and disgusting things in the sitting room!
