Those with good doers out 24/7.......

They get 3 big nets of hay between 3 of them a day then jess gets a 3/4 scoop alfalfa a, a 1/2 dog size scoop of pasture mix and a glug of oil! She gets that food twice a day

We have 2 horses and a 12.2hh on 5 acres of rough, very poor grazing. There IS grass, but it's rubbish. It's been analysed, so i know that. And to compensate, they're on balanced minerals with Speedibeet and a handful of Badminton's 'Easy Rider'. They occasionally get a bit of hay if Im feeling sorry for them, but they're happy with the grass at the mo so that's fine by me :)

The sec A is on 1.5% of bodyweight of hay + handful of mix and herbal chaff...
Sec B (not mine but prone to awful obesity in summer so am helping teenage sharer) is on 1.5% + some kind of 'diet food' (!) that her owner gives her, haven't been able to get to the bottom of what it is exactly
Sec D is on 2% of BW of hay + handful mix/chaff + mag ox
Weightaped them yesterday and am pleased - I kept them all slightly over the odds to winter out (mine are unrugged)..and have backed them down over the last couple of weeks in order to avoid them ballooning when the grass finally comes through properly...and Sec A is back to his pre-winter weight..Sec D is a bit under, combination of youngster growth and him being bottom of the pecking order for food, so keeping an eye on him weightwise.
Sec D grown-up boy is in another field with big girls, still adlibbing haylage and with mix and chaff for vits.

2 have nothing, although the grass is growing, they have had no feed or hay all winter, not in work.
2 have a nominal amount of haylage in the evening, this is being reduced from a more generous quantity through the winter.
If I fed them any more they would be getting too fat and need restriction over summer.
My not so good doers, ones in work are still on plenty of haylage and having feeds as required.

A handful of nuts with some balancer in it. As natives, they're not designed to be given 'extras' when on poor grazing. They have poor quality (or soaked) hay in winter, alongside the nuts, but that's it. And they only get the nuts / balancer because i'm a sap and they give me the liquid eyes when they don't get it!

My 2 have just gone back out 24/7 a few weeks ago after staying in at night over winter. Grazing isn't really poor but is the rough type you want for natives. Between a 14.2 & an 11.1 they currently get about a third of a bale between them in 24 hrs but neither is particularly greedy & only bother with the hay if the grass isn't plentiful enough to keep them full. They did have half a bale between them up to last week but were leaving a bit. I just reduce the hay when it's being left, in a week or 2 they probably will only get it if they're stood in for more than half an hour. Big horse gets a round stubbs scoop of hifi lite split into 2 feeds, little un gets a tablespoon full. Only bother with the hifi as big pony got into the habit of bucket feeds when she was in hard work & I don't mind pandering to her & pony gets a gesture as they are done together. Get the odd bit of fruit & veg but less now grass is coming through.

My good doer was quite chubby when he was originally turned out on to the poor grazing so to start just the grass was enough for him (he is retired not in work). He has now dropped weight but still on the poor grazing so have starting supplementing with Hay when he comes into his stable for grooming etc. He also is now having a bucket feed of chaff and pony nuts. Also to add all along he had had a small handful of chaff to mix vit and min supplement in because the grazing was not good.
