My baby has been in light work for around 5 weeks now, she lives out 24/7 and is on restricted grazing as she is a very good doer. She has lost a bit of weight and looks better for it but still a bit more to go. The grass we have has obviously passed its best but theres still alot there, just not as lush as it was.
I understand she is young still and obviously am building fitness from nothing so understandably she does tire easily but is improving all the time. I take her hacking for about 40 mins built it up, its a circuit) most days (she has 2 - 3 off out of 7) we only walk.
So my question is would you start feeding for a bit of energy in relation to the fact that shes now doing a bit of work as opposed to doing zilch in the field? if so what would/do you feed a very good doer (cob/native type) who is in work?

Thanks

My boy is very recently backed (as in three rides under saddle so far) he was a bit chunky and is too starting to look much better.

I am not at the point where i want to feed him anything i dont think he needs it. just a little handful of fast fiber to put a general supplement in it.

As you are only doing gentle exercise with her, I would not be looking to give her any additional feed at this stage. It's good that she's getting trimmer, too. She's a baby, so she will get tired quickly. She's being a good little girl, so I'd keep going as you are. If she starts to lose condition, my favourite is Baileys no 4 cubes, puts condition on without any excitable behaviour.

My cobs just get a handful of Happy Hoof or Hi Fi Lite when they come in. I put a squirt of both Marmite and sunflower oil in, and I'm amazed how great their coats have been looking, no rubbing either.
