Seriously eyeing up a PE rug for my lad, he is a serial rug trasher, are they truly hardy?

Looking at a 40g one then adding the liners to it, does anyone have these? Do they slip?

I think I would cry if he ripped a £100+ rug but now he has stopped growing I am keen to get him a decent rug that wont wont slip or rub him like the majority of cheapy ones do...

I got a couple of heavier ones towards the mid/end of last winter, one on a mare that is very careful and my lad who is a bit more rough and ready. His came through with a few small rips and nicks in it but nothing major, hers is fine. Decent denier cloth though, so pretty hard wearing.

If you go for the 1200 denier & above, then they do really well. The 1680 ones are THE best (IMHO)
Forget going off half-cock and getting the lesser denier ones tho in the Bustino range as there is no comparison to the 1680d ones :)

Wooops I slipped.

Buster Titan ordered in a lovely shade of purple ;)

Thanks for advice FF was looking at the 1000d one in 70g but gone for the 40g one with 1680d, can also get a liner to make it heavier come winter.

Now to magic up £130 so I can actually feed myself for the rest of october...

I needed to go up a size, not down. Otherwise PE combos are way too short on his neck. And hes not got a super long neck or anything freaky.

Haven't used it yet but bear in mind fit is very generous (ie you need to go down a size).

Ditto this, I bought a 5ft 6 which is ponio's normal size and was waay too big! Managed to get a 5ft 3 in the sale but even this is still roomy on him! But nice rugs though and hopefully tough enough for a youngster!

Hmm hopefully mine will be ok as he has quite a short neck and is about as wide as he is tall ;) xx

I read on their FB page the other day a comment where they say their rugs are generous and will measure 1-2 inches more than the label size. Thats not enough for me to go down a whole size, I'd probably get one that was just an inch bigger and then it would be 2 inches too short :D

No idea how the detachable necks measure up, the other rug has one but I've never used it.

Size wise I agree they come up huge! My horse is a 6'9 so that's what I got but its huge- The neck included is massive. However I bought it with using it over top of other rugs in mind aswell as alone so I figured it should be ok.

Well I am going by the cool sheet which I got on sale, its really roomy and the neck is a little big so it tends to sit back, I use it in the trailer and to keep him dust free if he has to stand in on a day time so doesnt really matter but wouldn't want him running in it as imagine it would move...

You can see here how it could be a size smaller no prob so hoping 6'9 turnout will be right

I bought mine the red titan 200 because he is forever ripping big holes in other rugs. Really impressed so far, plus i can spy him at the other end of the field without having to put my specs on!!

Good choice! ;)
I took delivery of this last week for my freshly clipped chappy.

Can't speak for rippage, and my lad and his mate are pretty good, but I have several and have never had one slip. Lovely rugs :)

Purple Titan is exactly what FLF is wearing tonight :biggrin3:

I also have a trio with liners (from previous-but-1 fuzzy) and tho it fits, its a big snug for FLF. The 2 liners will be very useful tho as they fit well under the purple one :)

Edited to add: the Trio is a 6ft & the Titan is 6ft 3......... FLF is 14.2 & not porky at present...........
The PE rugs fit natives & heavier types really well.

The trio was on HF last winter - he was 16.2..........

Not sure if its the same all across the board, or it was just possibly a poor fit on this particular horse, but the one on our yard had a good chunk of his mane rubbed out by the neck cover.
