hey all

I have not posted for a good while but i am quite worried about my pooch.

he is a jack russell cross norfolk terrier and was 12 in june.

Its so strange its almost like he woke up one day and was suddenly old :( he seems unstraight in his hind legs if you know what i mean, when he walks its angled. He has a nice cyst on his side (quite large), googled cysts and they said leave unless it bursts.
but he just is not right at the moment although he is eating and still able to go out and have a play.

Now my Aunty said if he is able to do the above then just let him be its not fair for a vet to be prodding him.

I do agree with that he has a good life he comes out with me pretty much everywhere i go :)

I guess i have just realised that he is not going to be around forever :( :(

Is there anything i can do now he is a senior, should i change his food?? or do anything different??

Thank you for hearing me out ;)

Nicky

12 isnt old for a jrt/norfolk. i lost my jrts at 17 and 19! mother and son. yes 12 is a good age for a biggish breed but only middleaged for a terrier type. i would pop him down to the vets for some bloods and a check over.

thank you for that i agree its not old maybe its the weather getting to him as we have not been getting out and about as normal, like the rest of the country we are snowed in :( have not seem my horse for like two weeks :0confused::confused:  (ok one of those i was in hospital for but even so)

Hiya, my JRT is 11 now, she has a lump on her side too (been there for 2 years and all checked by vet, who said leave it!)
I would probably pop him to the vets as like other people have said 12 isn't old for a terrierist :). Regarding the food what do you feed him now? Hope he feels better soon.

i'd just keep him as warm as poss - the harpley equestrian dog coats are fab - just like thermatex's
if he's walking odd it may be he's slipped in the snow or something and has something out? i get my horses back lady out to my old springer and it really seems to help his stiffness etc :)
also a joint suppliment seems to help - as does a magnetic collar worn each night :)

hey i know its a cyst as my friend is a GP and a dog owner and had a look for me and when my horse was having his teeth done i asked the vet to have a little lookie :)

i quite like the idea of giving him a supplement. he is off balance in his hind quaters which is why he is walking sometimes off kilt if that makes sense.
