Thanks all. I ask because I have the opportunity to ride a 15.2 TB and I am 13.5 stones.
I do ride quite light though and probably won't get out of walk - I'm happy to just pootle around!
Once mucking out etc the weight does drop off me too, so if/when I wanted to step it up and go further or faster I should be at a better weight.
I will ring the horses vets and ask his opinion first I think. Owner seems happy with my weight but I don't want to break her horse!
I wouldn't worry to much about how big he or she is, it's more a case of a well muscled back and well fitted saddle, no matter what you weight is, you migt get a big 17.1 TB that may struggle to carry a certain weight where as a better built TB of a smaller lighter frame with a well fitted saddle wouldn't blink an eye.![]()
When I weighed 13.5 stone I was riding at a riding school, I would invariably get put on a TB! I was very surprised. I always expected them to get the shire types out their stables for me.
None of the horses had a problem doing an hour in the school, including lots of trotting, cantering and jumping. Bearing in mind that mine wasn't the only lesson they had been ridden in either.
If the owner thinks you'll be fine then I wouldn't worry too much.
People do tend to vastly underestimate what horses are capable of carrying.
