Words just fail me on this latest money maker. A friend who takes dogs in for training has a client who is getting a new puppy , and was telling friend all about it. It is a cockerpoo female, and she is paying £3000 for it. The pup stays in breeders name and goes back to them to have FOUR litters, from which owner, using the term loosely, is allowed to keep one pup - not one from each litter just one pup. After the fourth litter the breeder will have the bitch spayed (not sure who pays) and then the mug who paid £3K is allowed to call the dog their own . The best of it is this stupid woman thinks she has got a good deal.
I have both owned and sold bitches on breeding terms , when you maybe had a couple of pups from a litter, but generally either didn't pay at all for bitch or a reduced amount. I can't believe that not only are these so called breeders doing this, but people are falling for it.

I am horrified thats a dreadful thing to do to a dog it shouldn't have more than 2 litters it shouldn't have any til more than 2 years od and only one a year so it will be at least 6 in this instance and the pups wont be hers either. This is such a scam

Exactly, though of course as they can't be KC registered there is nothing to stop the poor bitch having back to back litters.

I have so many questions - how do they know at the point of 'sale' that the bitch is of breeding quality, who pays the veterinary bills, how do you reconcile sending your family pet away from you for weeks at a time, several times, why wouldn't you just buy a different 3k cockerpoo outright without all this additional nonsense - but actually I don't want to know, the whole thing just sounds like an immoral scam.

the breeding quality judgement made me laugh. Does this bitch have a vulva, uterus and ovaries, job done. Well done to the breeder, as long as there Is such stupidity as seen in this woman they will continue to rake it in.
I was offered Tawnys mum on her retirement from trialling, the breeder wanted to have her back for one more litter but there was a mile long contract for both parties.
I decided against as I knew if I had the bitch for 6 months to a year I wouldn’t want her going back to breed.

My husband's niece had a pedigree rough collie on a breeding agreement, this meant the purchase price was significantly less than it would otherwise have been and they ended up never breeding the bitch (perhaps she didn't turn out as well as they'd hoped).

With this sort of 'deal', they should have been given the bitch for nowt but fools & their money are soon parted. Four litters is too much, the whole dog situation in this country is getting out of control - puppy farming, the prices, the fashions, uneducated owners with unsuitable breeds, out of control dogs, thefts - the whole thing is getting ridiculous.

Yes that is how breeding terms used to work. It meant small breeders could keep their lines without having too many dogs, I gave away one bitch to friends with the plan of having a pup back but bitch had bad hips so I just signed her fully over to them.

The so called deal this woman has committed to is just a huge scam with no concern for the bitch or any future pups as I very much doubt health tests will be done.

God, that is horrific. Who pays all the vet bills associated with the breedings? Or is something goes wrong during the pregnancy/ies? Does she get her money back if the bitch dies? ? Or if she develops pyo, or needs an emergency spay before all 4(!) litters have been had, or if she develops lifelong problems as a result of those litters? Surely the bitch won’t be able to be insured. And they’re expected and happy to pay 3k! They should be getting the bitch for free, and given a stipend for her food & upkeep, if the seller is going to use her as a remote breeding machine. How vile.

Can’t stop thinking about this.

What if the bitch dies of some other cause or accident? What if she gets stolen? What if the ‘buyer’ or ‘seller’ decide to move, and not inform the other party? Who cares for the litter till they’re ready to leave, and who fronts that cost? Who pays for the specialist nutrition for the bitch while she’s pregnant/lactating?

Far too much liability attached to this scenario. I don’t think I’d be interested in having a dog which ‘belongs’ to someone else, even if it was free! The fact that they’re happy to take on this train wreck and pay 3k for the privilege is just mind boggling.

I thought, maybe wrongly, that to breed a cockerpoo you crossed a poodle and a spaniel ? Can you breed decent ones from a cockerpoo crossed with another one ?

Actually in my experience you breed a cocker to a poodle then breed the bitches from that litter to the same poodle then the daughters of that litter to their dad and granddad and so on ad infinitum until both the bitch line and dog line is so closely related you are simply breeding the same dog over and over with all the incestuous problems of close gene proximity (forgotten the relevant name) the number becomes 1 its not supposed to be lower than 16

That might explain why the world is full of cockerpoos when there seem to be no poodles anywhere. I’ve wondered that one for a while

A very gullible friend of mine fell for this, same breed too, wonder if she got it from the same person? We managed to help her send it back after the first litter, the woman got really nasty about how the bitch wasn't coming in season quick enough for the second litter....it's a total con/tax dodge/ licencing dodge for the backayard puppy farmers...

It's really shocking. I think I would have the poor thing spayed and then feign ignorance. I mean, I wouldn't buy the poor thing at that, or any price, and I also wouldn't have gone for the deal in the first, but .... if I got her, she wouldn't be having that litter.
