Had our first jumping lesson today, we've never jumped before....or so I thought....Instructor started off with trotting poles on the ground, started with walking over poles, all very good, then we trotted over poles and he trashed them all! So, instructor thought we'd raise them 6". This is where the fun began. We trotted round and jumped them easy then in canter. We then crossed the poles over and again he jumped them easy.

At this point, I did not want to jump any higher as it was my first lesson and was proud that we had done this much without incident. However, at this point my instructor was convince he had done it before, so she then mounted him and proceeded to jump 2'6 and 3'+ and it was a spread jump too!

I was utterly amazed (we all were) as he can be so lazy I have to really kick him on to get him going some days, other days he listens and is responsive. So now I know what his capabilities are I'm gonna have to have more lessons

Thats brilliant.

I have a 14 1 cob and by god even though shes small she can jump and much prefers the bigger ones and finds the little ones boring.

Good on you and have fun!!!:D

Brilliant news :)

I can't wait to have jumping lessons with my boy once we've sorted out general schooling so it's really encouraging to hear others are doing well :)

Keep us updated, and pictures please!! x

I'm just starting to jump on my cob also, he's a different horse with jumping and loves it, but its very clear he hasn't done it before, so lucky u.
Enjoy it, my friend has a 15hh real chunky cob, he beat most of the sports horses in our yards annual show, got a 2nd and 3rd, so cobs can be really good at jumping :)
