Standing 15hh at 15 months old. He's suddenly grown a big head overnight.

I'm quite good with conformation, but no where near an expert; so comment away! (Obviously hard with a growing yearling!)

Mine 'lost' his neck at this age. I looked one day and it was so short with this huge head on the end. He is now rising four and is in proportion. Now the three year old has no chest, still looks like he has been squeezed like the bus in Harry Potter, looks great from the side.

My 15 month old filly has a massive head, and I mean massive, she's in a full sized bridle for inhand shows! Her neck also looks shorter, whereas proportionately as a foal it looked quite good. I just keep thinking things can only get better!

I like your yearling. Nice and strong, compact looking. The only thing that stands out to me is a high set tail, my girls is low set though so maybe that's why. Gorgeous outlook.

What height do you expect him to make? My filly is 14.1hh right now I hope she stops at 15.2!

When my Arab was 2 he had a huge head and a weedy body I think it's just how some look, I like your yearling my favourite colour too what breed is he?

The second photo makes him look very short between his elbow and knee, plus between his stifle and hock. Hopefully it's part camera angle and partly because he's still growing.

I do think he has quite a high set tail, but I'll see if he grows into it!

He should make between 16.2 - 17hh

He's an Oldenburg

Here's another recent photo of him :)

He's a smashing looking colt: great set of limbs, nice big open joints and good angles front and back - on the hind end particularly (= good as this is the power house). No horse is perfect, so my only quibble would be on the positioning of the neck; I like it set up a little higher on the shoulder. Grand fella!

Thank you for your lovely comment. I can't see much fault in him conformation wise as I see him everyday. But it's interesting in hearing what other people think of him.

I think he looks great. Yes, his neck makes his head look a bit big at this stage but he still has plenty of time to grow into himself. It is suprising sometimes how much they can change.

Super stamp, nothing to really pick up on apart from a slightly poor neck set, but with the right work that will improve as his top line appears.

Good luck with him, he will do any job.

He looks a lovely type and what a gorgeous red/bay colour.

I think he looks a little straight through the hind leg and with long cannon bones, but otherwise looks good. I don't have much experience however with assessing horses of this age and what they will eventually turn out like!

I have an oldenburg mare she is 16 now and retired due to an injury, she has the most fantastic nature very loving and you can do anything with her, she was a lovely forward ride and loved being ridden so I am gutted that she no longer can, I did consider getting another oldenburg but have ended up with another arab, I would definately get another whats your orses breeding and what are you going to do with him?

My first thoughts were he is very nice. I agree with the neck set, so make sure when he works have a nice topline. A lovely colt you have there.

Thanks everyone. He's going to be my new dressage horse since mine has just gone into semi-retirement.

I'll try and get a picture of him stood square and straight tonight.

He is lovely :)

Tbh I look at mine as foals and then I don't look at them critically until they are ready to be broken, if he was correct at 6 months then he will be correct when he is grown up :)

Little bum high perhaps....:tongue3: Also appears to be suffering from blue balls... :biggrin3:

He's lovely OP, nice stamp of a horse, should be very nice once matured (and, erm, upright!) :smile3:

Easier said than done judging by these photos! I'm not great on conformation but he looks a great character! When I see them doing things like this I wish I could have a youngster but I don't have the time or the confidence. :(

Agree with this - also terribly on the forehand, poor balance and no ball control. Brave though!!!
