Thought's on ad for a foal

You can't sell anything on potential without listing the successes of the parents and other progeny. It's an empty word without any reference.

His legs look strange. Unless its just the photo angle, but then you have to wonder how much they know if they thought that was the best picture to use.

Nicely marked but don't let that sway you.
Its not just me then. I thought that too but couldn't put my finger on it.

Im not looking but a friend is.

Looks a bit long in the back and legs are at odd angles being crossed over or turned outward. I don't care for him much if I'm honest looks narrow in chest too. There are other nice foals with better conformation.

Would be interested to know who the sire is and what his breeding is, my boys sire is still covering a few mares in Cornwall and as a foal he looked like a bit of a car wreck but he turned out very well in both temperament and build. Probably not the same sire but if it is, I've heard that all the youngsters have fantastic and easy temperaments just like my chap

I guess price also depends on breeding. Obviously we don't know anything about this colt. But there are some nice looking youngsters with unknown breeding selling for much more

I think there are some nice looking youngsters on herehttp://www.welshstud.co.uk/ but I don't know anything about Welsh lines. But I do think some are priced a bit high for the current market

Without wishing to be harsh to the foal I'd have said he's meat money. Think it's very safe bet neither parent has proven competition record (as surely they would have stated it to substantiate price), so why is he a sport horse (& all horses have potential so that word counts for nothing)? Far from good conformation, he's coloured, so what. Won't help in a dressage test or over a jump. Would prefer a solid colour from proven bloodlines or very good conformation.

If you look at the angle of the knee and lower limb in the first pic I think he is about to take a step which is one of the reasons his forelimbs look so odd. He does have very rounded joint sthough which would put me off a bit.

I actually quite like him though he is slightly long in the back and a little cow hocked (but many foals are). The first picture shows him about to take a step. His legs look fine to me, nice and strong. I like the sound of his character too.

The only way you will know is to go and see him. I'm afraid I wouldn't believe either way anyone who claims to be able to comment on conformation from a photo! They are not great photos, he may be rubbish, he may have something, but you cannot tell from those angles. And (obviously) he is only a foal; he will grow and change.

For example, I have a very correct CB and in a bad photo she can look like an old donkey - in a good photo she looks like a HOYS champion.
