Thoughts on Amerigo Dressage Saddles?

I tried one when I got my SLK (Albion) I found it very severe. Extremely (too for me) close contact and held me VERY still... I felt restricted even on my massive moving DWB but if you have a big moving horse it does hold you in place...

Can you try before you buy cos I think they may be a bit 'marmite' (you either love em or hate em). -- TBH I personally hated it.

Depends on the model I suppose. I rated my Amerigo as the best dressage saddle I ever rode in :) Was very confortable for me and my horse. Mine was adjustable which is what I needed for my 4 year old, as I didn't want to pay £££££ for a saddle that woulnd't fit in 6 months. I sold it when I sold my horse and didn't lose much on it
 
Ive ridden in one and found the opposite to bitzsnbobs. It wasnt on my horse but I didnt feel like it was a dressage saddle as the seat was so flat. I do like the feel of a deep seat and big knee rolls tho :D
 
Thanks guys. I am definitely trying before I buy :) Especially as my pony has been a pig to fit before =/ Also I am very small ( 5ft 1 and size 6ish) so I can often swim around in saddles :(

The girl is bringing it over next saturday so fingers crossed :)
 
I watched a saddler fit one to a £70k dressage horse and it was coming off his back at every stride. I queried whether the saddle fitted with my trainer and she told me that Amerigos are designed to do that to allow the back to rise under the saddle.

To me, all that means is that you will be sitting on the saddle and not on the horse, and I'm unhappy about any saddle bouncing up and down like that, but the owner bought it and then my trainer bought another and says her horse goes brilliantly in it.

Personally, I have experienced many times how a change of saddle, any saddle, makes a horse go better for a while until it is used to where the new saddle causes pressures and then it fades back to "normal" again.

I'm unconvinced!
 
Well I'll see how it feels when im riding it. Im only 16 with no regular income so this has taken me a long time to save up. I am definatly not going to waste it on something that is not 100%

Just to let you know that it appears to fit my funny shaped connie and in the 5 mins i was on it, it was pretty comfy :D

Goiong to have a proper lesson this afternoon so I guess all shall be revealed... ;)
