What are your thoughts on them?

I want to help Jack build his back, back up.

He doesnt go around with his head in the air while being lunged, he does stretch down every now and again but could do with stretching more.

I cant use anything like a pessoa on him as he flips when anything touches his back end.

Thanks c x

Very good providing the horse is made to work through from behind and not just fall onto the forehand, however some object to the poll pressure, shortlived normally if they are encouraged through it!

one of the few gadgets i actually use! don't get along with pessoas at all (i find you can mostly acheive the same with long reins and you can give more accurate pressure and release with your hands and if your horse is not well balanced like mine if he trips its less harsh on his mouth)

most horses object to chambon at first, so start with it nice and loose, great for helping my fussy mouthed horse concentrate on stretching as there is no back pressure on the bit.

and you can pick one up fairly cheaply!

when i first started using one, i had problems with how to attach my other equipment (normally pass the lunge line through the bit and over poll and attach to other side) also found using a cavesson got in the way of the chambon.

finally resolved by purchasing a stallion coupling (its leather with a ring in the middle and clips on each end) just use a head piece with a bit, then attach this to both bit rings and then lunge off the ring, it works really well.

I really like them, I have one but for some reason I don't use it any more and use a pessoa instead.
I've really gone of the pessoa recently and I was wondering what to use, thanks for reminding me about chambons, I'll use that next time I lunge!

They are great. No problems fitting them with a leather lunge cavesson (cavesson goes on first, then the bridle). None of mine have ever objected - we lunge first with the chambon on but not attached to the bit, and then clip it on loosely and then tighten it up gradually. there is a good little book you can get about it, really informative, that I found on ebay. Can't recall the name but there can't be many on there! As long as your horse lunges well I'm sure you'll have no probs with it. Oh yes, when the horse really lowers its nose to the ground in trot there is always the worry that he'll get his forelegs caught in the rope bits - we use a neck strap to keep them higher. Good luck!
