My mare had a massage on Monday night and I have been advised she is tight in the back end so need to work on trying to loosen up a little...I personally feel she is more relaxed and went much better on the lunge this week after...is this all in my head or do you feel this could be from the massage?

A good masseur can really help a horse, so yes, your horse probably is feeling the benefit. Here is my mare loving her recent massage, previously she has been rather tight in her quarters and hamstrings but she really let C get in deep this time.

Massage isn't really a substitute for regular physio checks, but the two can work well in parallel.

My friend is an equine massage person, my horse is 38 and has had a few massages.

The one was while his sheath was swollen and she said hopefully the massage would help towards the lymph glands, it went down in 2 days compared to when it last happened a year ago and it took approx 3 weeks+ to go down

He really enjoys it and I think it helps. Some people have them done regularly especially if they are competing

Those that do use a regular equine massage...what sort of qualifications do you go for? And how much would you expect to pay?

Or any recommendations for the North Cheshire/South Manchester region.

To go hand in hand with his regular physio.

Madamebonnie, I recommend and use Charlotte Ridgwell. She covers your area. Lovely girl, and so good with the horses. She will pick up on anything which may need further investigation too.

She's done a fair bit of training, and I think her main qual is from Equissage Europe. She's certainly fully insured, and is aiming for full physio accreditation (though I don't which route she's taking to get there.) She's previously ridden to a decent level BS and to Advanced level dressage.

I pay £45 for a full hour's session.

massage was used in the old days to clear and drain certain infections and conditions, and warming a horse up can be a sort of massage through movement.

i`m interested in if the massage pads you can buy are worth it, any advice please?
