Anyone got any ideas as to how to improve energy in a horse that has suffered from Laminitis and puts weight on easily?
She was overweight and unfit when I got her. She has now lost lots of weight and is working well and is much fitter, and fingers crossed has been laminitis free for the past 12 months. However she seems to run out of energy after 15 - 20 minutes work and in order to get her really fit I feel like I need to get her working better for longer. I would just like a bit more oomph!
She lives mainly on grass over the summer with some hay when the paddock is bare. As winter approches she has been having some feeds which will increase from next week when the come in overnight for the winter. She is currently on hi fi litewith top spec anti lam feed balancer. She also gets speedi beet and has hi fibre nuts in a treat ball. This is obviously on top of her hay (and she likes to eat her straw bed once the hay is all gone)
I was considering swapping the hi fi lite for alfa A lite when the bag runs out but was wondering what other people do? A friend suggested giving vegetable oil so we added some to a feed before she went out doing dressage but it didn't seem to make any difference.
Thanks
