I've completed two BE100s on my new horse and as we are hopefully moving on to novice sort of halfway through this season I want to get as much 100 mileage on him as I can! He has competed up to 1* but can be quite spooky in the show jumping. If I didn't go to Howick I would have to wait another month and the next run would be at BCA but I really don't want to wait that long because I have to do an ONu18 class as my first novice and there aren't that many later on in the season, and I still need to get my qualifying results at 100. Have heard that the ground at howick last year was terrible and the sj fences look quite spooky. Of course it isn't worth going just to have a bad run and lose confidence. Would love to hear from someone who has been there, particularly how they found sj, xc isn't an issue he's done two flying clears round both moreton and aldon this year, I'm much more afraid of the sj as it is mine and my horse's weak phase - he has plenty of scope we've schooled up to 1m20 at home I have just recently lost a lot of confidence as I've had some bad habits creeping back that I developed from my very unforgiving six year old and my current horse is very sensitive. (he went DC at aldon a few days ago but the sj there isn't really up to height). Anyways am looking forward to hearing from anyone who has been to Howick, thanks in advance:)

I went with a friend to Howick last year.
I wouldn't have said the ground was terrible, she was happy to run her horse against the clock xc (the XC is pretty straightforward)

The SJ arena didn't ride particularly well, it was on the small side and not flat.
Not obviously spooky but a combination of things had the course not jumping brilliantly.

I think it's one of those events you'd go to if local but wouldn't trek across the country to for a run.
