Thoughts on Keeping Horses in?

Those of you not turning out as the ground is too hard, whichb is what it comes down to, do you not turn out in summer either? Surely it can be just as bad as poached ground dries out.

Other than battery hens (do they still exist not sure) it seems only horses are kept on postage stamps relative to their size, I just think its mean, just something us humans have become more used to seeing so we think its ok, just sad really but the horses have an amazing way of coping with it thankfully

I think its more important to do what suits the horse, and is the safest bet. If you have a horse that is happy to stay in, and its crap outside, then leave it in. If on the other hand you have a horse that is a loon in the stable, and weather permits, put it out. I dont put mine out in the bad weather because no 1, he hates it, and just wants to come in,
no 2, its easier on me,
no 3, he will not be trashing the fields while waiting to come in.
To me its more important to do what is right for YOUR horse, not necessarily whats the right way in other peoples eyes.

I usually dries gradually and becomes smooth.

I agree that keeping horses in 24/7 is very similar to battery chickens.
