Thoughts on poorly horse please?

Hi guys, ive got a poorly horse and looking for any suggestion...

Found my dutch draft in the field this evening v unhappy breathing heavily looking like colic. Vet been thinks a bit of colic but raised temp so infection somwehere. Also lame on on front foot (hasn't been lame up until now) so he cut away cant see anything definite but maybe something.. perhaps a abscess?

given buscapan (sp?) bute and penicilin taken blood for tests in the am.

in the meantime poor horse is sweating buckets and i have to keep an eye on him overnight

i am worried could be lami... vet said thinks not at moment but any thoughts (or vibes?)
 
Thanks had to poltice the foot- at this moment i wish was it the 11.2 pony that was poorly- easier to sort one of his feet rather that the 750kg "elephant"!

Been said before wish they could talk......
 
Heavy breathing and sweating can just be the pain response, and like people some have a higher threshold than others.

Its going to be a long night for you, hopefully you will get the answers in the morning.

Lots of get well quick vibes and hope the night isnt too long for you.
 
It is very mild where I am tonight, so a LW cooler will help wick away the sweat and not let him get a chill, just check he is not sweating more in it (as in getting to warm) if not used to wearing one.

Gosh what a worry for you, hopefully it will just turn out to be an abcess that is causing such pain and if not answers once the bloods have been run. We had one that you thought he had broken his leg, but laid down groaning due to an abcess.
 
Thanks, just checked him (so glad i am lucky enough to have them at home) he seems a bit calmer- kicking the door for hay - he is not allowed any tonight and feeling a bit better to be annoyed about it.

See what the night brings, he is built like a tank so hopefully this will stand him in good stead
 
Has the vet found a digital pulse, which would indicate congestion in that foot and possibly the abcess, which can provoke a pain reaction exactly as you describe. Buscopan I think is an anti spasmodic, probably not much help if it is an abcess.
 
Well an update...

He looks quite a lot better, temperature normal, colic symptoms gone but breathing still a lot faster than normal although his lungs sound clear.

Completely sound and no pain reaction on foot that reacted last night

so not much clearer on what this problem is. More bloods taken to be sent away this time more penicilin (or equine equivalent!) and pain killers. Allowed out to graze for a couple of hours and another vet visit tomorrow.

No digital pulse and yes buscapan was anti spasmodic for colic symptoms last night

Just have to wait and see...
