As I get ever closer to arriving back in the UK from Afghanistan I am still looking for a nice horse to buy on my return to do a little bit of everything with. This is the latest one that has caught my eye; Prestwood Farm always seem to have some nice Irish ponies for sale. What do people think of Painter? I'm not an expert at buying horses so all thoughts gratefully received.

I think he looks nice. A lot (huge generalisation!) of dealers of young Irish horses work them in draw reins so they may have just been taken off for the pic and he hadn't yet noticed!
He is very smart.

It will be at least a week before I could go and see him and I'm sure he'll be sold by then. Oh well, I can only keep my fingers crossed. Prestwood Farm - if you're reading this please don't sell him just yet!

I remember him being on the website a good few months ago now, when the majority of the photos were taken, and then I believe he was sold?
However he appears to be back again.

Looks really nice. Don't like the way he's being shown off (ridden over bent) I also thought there was something with his hock....possibly capped? Could just be the picture?

Snowflake his hock does look odd in first pic but i think it's just the angle.

I'd say he's arrived here a few short weeks ago, had every shred of hair shaved from his body, had his long mane pulled and now being trained to the correct side.

he will have been worked in draw reins and pulled into that awful shape. The girl in the flatwork pics has, in my opinion, a dreadful position, couldn't ride any horse through without some artificial assistance.

At a guess i'd say they are asking at least £3,500 more than this horse will have cost them to buy bring over and keep for the last couple or three weeks. Nice work if you can get it.

Three people our way have bought from this dealer. All nice horses / ponies but not cheap.
Two have had teething problems but I think it's been down to inexperience.
Apparently you need earplugs as the noise from Gatwick is something else !

Smart looking little horse, as said above, looks a bit green and not benefitting in the way he is being 'held' in an overbent position. Having had a nose round the website, this company seems to source some useful looking horses/ponies. The pics of another horse, now apparently sold, show the same rider with the same, rather unforgiving, position of her hands. That horse is overbent, too.
In respect of the horse you are interested in, OP, I think he is very expensive for the price and that tou would get an equally nice animal for half that money! Just my opinion, though.

Looks a nice enough horse but very over priced. Lots of pictures of him in trot but none of canter or him stood up.

He is nice but dear for what he is. I think the hock is probably a colour optical illusion?

Over bent yes but rider has low fixed hands. He is likely to be green but could turn out to be a smart little horse, I like his type a lot!

Large hocks from the pics, but could be angle as mentioned earlier. Wouldn't bother me about being over bent, can be rectified.

I don't like coloureds, but I actually think that is one nice looking horse.

I don't think I would pay anywhere near that price though, unless it was an absolute saint which was very well schooled.

He's not my type and his markings on his legs are making his hocks look worse, indeed an optical illusion that when judging you have to look very carefully to see where the true lines lay!

Ok - thanks for all your comments - really appreciated. Definitely some interesting points that I hadn't considered. If he's still available at the end of the month then I might go and see him in the flesh. Thanks everyone again.
