IMO he's certainly not cheap in the current market.
He's advertised as 13 and that means he's 14 this year honestly unless he's a perfect performer that's top whack at the moment.

i would say it would depend on the horse. I payed £3000 for a 14 year old a year and a half ago ;)

Sorry to be a wet blanket but I don't like him. He appears to be all at the front end & nothing behind, short on the leg for his length. I would expect a decent hunter to be stronger behind. It's just an opinion which could easily be rubbish but I wouldn't bother with him.

Just get him vetted if you like him. My concern would be the type of horses they sell and the prices! What look like nice part exes for peanuts. Screams something wrong Im afraid.
I bought a lovely 8 yr old mare a few years ago for a similar price as Albert from a dealer, she was straight over from Ireland too, looked a bit rough but bloomed and was by far the best horse I have ever owned. I didnt get her vetted and she was basically kna**ered. Poor girl, she had a nice couple of years until she had to be PTS ok due to colic but I had retired her as she was so unsound with a condition she had when I bought her. She'd had a hard life previously.
Not trying to put a downer on things but please be careful.

Albert! I'd buy him just for his name:)

They're literally giving horses away in Ireland, so it's easy to see why he is such a good price. You really can't tell much from the the pictures - he could look better than he is or worse. Go and look, take an experienced friend and if you like him get him vetted by an experienced horse vet.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Hes not far from me and I'm sure I went to see a thoroughbred from them which was lame which thy tried to hide by not trotting haha. Might not be them though it was quite a while ago. They look quite novicey riders so could be a really genuine horse

Well, I went to see him and I actually quite liked him BUT he doesn't have a passport - in the post from the dealer from Ireland so nothing I can do yet. How on earth this horse was travelled from Ireland without a passport is beyond me & why they didn't tell me before I travelled all that way. So I tried the 15 year old grey & he was much older than 15 & took me for a canter down a main road so he is a big no no!! Am starting to think I need to rob a bank to get a safe horse for under 3k!! :-(

Why do they say passport in the post? I know one dealer who used to go to the sales up the road and pass them off as Irish as lets face it anything can pass as Irish these days whatever the passport says. She never bought in Ireland as it was far too expensive to bring them back. She used to say they were good in traffic but had never even been down the road.

I am sure you will find something. x

He looks like a geniune guy but some thing about those back legs does not look quite right and coupled with that his head nodding looks a little bit excessive.
Also if he hunted in Ireland then I wouldn't expect him to look at that jump the way he did.

He might be fantastic but you won't know until you see him, be sure to vet though :)

I asked earlier up the thread, what are you actually looking for?

Sorry, I am looking for a 16hh-17.3hh mare/gelding, looks unimportant. Vices not a problem. Aged from 5-13 (younger the better) but must have an older brain and enjoy hacking alone or in company and safely canter behind as i wish to hunt (got the bug now) and pop a few jumps without flying round the school at a 100 miles an hour. Must have a passport lol :)

I am near Newark, Notts :)

what about this horse?? owner is after £1800 - is that too much for a cribber??

Well he certainly looks Bonny enough. Ring and ask every question under the sun. Perhaps a change of management might stop the wind sucking. Hate collars - he's obviously doing it for a reason but it might be an ingrained habit that's impossible to stop. The only thing that puts me off is the irreverent language used in the ad - 'what he does in his own time is up to him' and the silly pic of her in her PJs but that's just me being picky!

I don't know if you might be interested in this or not as he's not huge but I've asked for his full details in case. 16hh or 15.3 - can't remember exactly, gelding, done RC stuff and a little bit of BE so good flatwork SJ and XC and should hunt very happily, very nice little chap, I've known of him for about three or four years now since he was backed and he is a sweetie to handle and has been brought on carefully and sensitively, hacks out by himself or in company. He'd be well within your budget. He's in North Cambs. I don't want to give more details on here because of advertising
