Classic Primitive
Thinking of using him this year.
I can only find one picture of him on the website and no video footage anywhere to see how he moves so just wondering what peoples views are ?
I have a Criminal Law mare out of a mare by Demonstrator and I am hoping to breed a nice eventer
Thanks

A lovely sort. However, the elegies on the website seem a little over the top bearing in mind he's only just rising 4.

Hmm Yes I know what you mean.
I really like the look (of what little I have seen ) of him I will try to get some more pictures of him
Maybe I just want some confirmation that an unproven stallion is worth that stud fee ?!

I like him – personally though I prefer Future Illusion who is already proven in the show ring and futurities as well as having some very nice foals on the ground even tho he too is only 4. what is you mare??

Love his sire Chico's Boy, lovely stamp of a horse. We showed against CP last season with our 2yo filly and beat him and have to say he didnt stand out to me at all at the time. In fact I only realised we had shown against him when I read the website. Best to ask people who saw him at the Pavo Championships as he did very well there

I am tired, so tired, of phrases like "World Class" being taken and redefined as the new average. It takes away from those who actually are world class. And if you want to see what world class is, go to the WBFSH ranking lists, it's all there. I use the phrase world class when describing a stallion in the top 100 sires in the world. With 7000 sport horse stallions available worldwide, I reckon that's fair enough.

I see phrases like "the ultimate event sire" and the first thing that comes into my head is "what utter BS". There is no such thing.

Then I see "unmatchable jumping pedigree" and roll my eyes in disbelief. Perhaps Chellano's breeders might have something to say about that, by Contender out of the full sister of Corrado?????????????

And you know, this could well be a decent horse, but the overstatement and predicted future success are actually taking away from him in my view. I am NOT knocking the horse.

Fact. CP's sire, Chico's Boy is about 100€ more expensive, speak to World Class Stallions about him.

Mighty Magic is approved Holst and about £150 less with his first foals on the ground.

Question.........................is Classic Primitive actually approved yet? I assume he must be.

If a horse is good enough he stands up for himself and stands out in the crowd, and doesn't need acres of guff written about him.

Reaches for tin hat.........................

Yes completely see your point and actually I am not sure if he is approved ?!
Wow Mighty Magic is very smart and within my (rather small)budget. How do I get more information on him ?
Talk about putting a spanner in the works, can someone just pick one for me please ?

Going to start saving next year for a Jaguar Mail baby

I dont think he's even been put forward for grading yet.
Have a look at his sire here http://www.gestuet-sprehe.com/cms/front_content.php?idcat=264
and I also love from the same stud
http://www.gestuet-sprehe.com/cms/front_content.php?idcat=252

What do you want to enhance or improve in your mare? Any photos of her?

I am looking to breed an eventing foal myself this year from this mare http://www.volatis.co.uk/gerty.html
and wanted to go with a TB stallion this time as she does throw big and is a big girl herself. So I went with Set Adrift at Ranby Hall who is a compact stamp, with a super hind leg action for a TB. And a nice sporthorse influenced pedigree seeing as he is bred to race.

I am also a big fan of one of the horse's Ken has on his books this year - Grafenstolz. http://www.gestuet-birkhof.de/hengste/grafenstolz.php

and another Trakehner I would definatly use on the right mare as an eventing sire is Axis http://217.154.64.185/stallions/axis.htm

That's always a step in the right direction.

We're just sorting a deal out with MM's owners, for now here's a link to him: http://www.fp.agenturserver.eu/kempkehof/englisch/hengste_magic.htm

He's unproven as an eventing sire, but his genetics say he has enough tb and he has movement, looks and scope. If I were limited on budget or looking to take a punt on a youngster, he'd be one I would look at if trying to make something that might event.

Having said that, for 200€ more you get Grafenstolz

It kind of puts the price thing into perspective doesn't it??????

I personally LOVE Mighty Magic!!! In fact we are seriously contemplating him for the event mare next year....
We love the boy we've gone with this year (Amiro Z...of of Ken's boys), but MM is just awesome IMO. As Ken already said, he is approved Holsteiner and 30 day tested I believe and set to be competed by Andreas Dibowski last time I looked.....Very good future in store for this boy.

I too also think that CP and his stable mate Furst Opera are quite over proced for 3 yr old as yet unproven stallions IMO, especially when you consider that whilst yes they have competed in the BEF futurities and county showing neither are as yet approved with any recognised stud books.....

For those of us, and quite a few have done it, who have grafted to prove our stallions by taking them advanced and grading them at a lot of cost, it seems like taking the mick some of the hype they place around these colts before they have even taken a step on the ladder. Thr BEF fururities are just that an opinion that you are on the right lines but the next step to prove trainability and talent is much bigger and its a shame these colts can even go public until they have proved that

Thanks did you get to meet Mighty Magic in person ? If so what was his temperment like ? This is very important for me that whatever I choose have a superb trainable temperment.

Yes I appreciate that to produce an eventer proving its temperment/trainability costs a lot in time and money and risks to get a stallion through the grades and it must be soul destroying after all that work for young unprovens to come along charging the earth. Could you PM me the name of your stallion if you feel he would be of interest to me please ?
I think with all the hype and publicity for the young horse classes perhaps proven horses get brushed under the carpet a little ? If this stallion doesn't achieve great things I'm sure there will be another young horse winner waiting to fill its £650 place.
I haven't got strong connections in the breeding world, i only know what stallions are available to me from my own research, mostly using the internet, I think if you advertise your product well its so important now otherwise aspiring breeders like me won't know whats out there.

Interesting TB blood in Mighty Magic. Spectacular Bid was a phenominal race horse and incredibly tough and very grey in colour. I never thought to see him in sports horse blood, no idea why not, I just didn't. There is no doubting that MM looks to be a cracking stallion and the pics of his offspring chosen are beautiful movers - foals always seem to move well, really spingy and elevated (general observation btw).

With regards to Classic Primitive, I saw him last year at the BEF evaluations and was very impressed by him, but not impressed enough to think that he is good value for money - I don't care who is sending their mares to him

Good mares tend to get concessions...... No idea if this is the case, generalising again
grin.gif
I was that impressed by CP, that I enquired about his sire earlier this year.... For me, that's a big deal, I prefer to support British Studs and their stallions. As it is, I won't be using him, but that's another story and no fault of the horse.

All the very best

He has the best Burghley mare of 2007 booked to him, plus Badminton clear, Java Tiger mare "Little Tiger" so he is certainly popular with the Eventing community.

Your mare has a great pedigree and you are right to breed from her
