Now my horse Kia used to go mental in the trailer and canter, climb the walls and rear after he had his accident so he has always had the trailer to himself, but now I have another horse I would like to be able to travel them together.

I have a 505 so can take two horses.

Now I know kia goes better in the drivers side round corners if he has to be in with others and E leans against the passenger side so thought I would have it sorted.

Now if you Jam Kia in he is ten times worse than if hes got a bit of room, but he rips his side to pieces on the partition, need to get that padded on his side some more i think. So I took off the back partition put the full breast bar in and padded off the slots for the pack partition as had visions of Kia tearing himself a new one

I climbed in the jockey door Scott shut me on and off we went.

Well got to the first corner and they were great no bother. I thought I had cracked it. Went round a few more both ways and they were good.

Kia then decided he wanted to spread his back legs and sat on the back bar we went round another corner and all hell broke loose. He shot sideways, She sorted herself out no bother no fuss at all but Kia then reared in the trailer (his fav trick) and then cantered in the trailer whilst trying to climb the wall

I got a hold of his head collar and yanked him back forward, then let go he stood for a bit then tried to sit back did the same again but without standing on her and resorted to climbing the wall again.

So I dragged him forwards again and stood holding his leadrope at the clip and refusing to let him sit back and voila he stood like a gem.

Now the last time we jammed him forward liek this he hung himself, but he only had three good legs at the time.

So should i take them out again on sat, jam him in, tie him forwards and watch what he does but without her in the trailer or should I try them both again but with him like this.

Without her means if needs be i can go down the empty side and release the back bar if he comes a cropper but with her means the trailer doesn move so much as to unbalance him standing to one side.

If this doesnt work it means I cannot take them anywhere together which is a shame for Scott if we want to go to the beach just us or if I book them both in at summat far away.

Is it worth trying or should I just leave it???

I know your not supposed to travel in a reailer with the horses but it was only a hort distance and we were going very slow. :)

I'd go with mild sedation tbh if he's that bad, or just do double trips if he can get awau travelling ok on his own.

We have a little pony mare like this. We took her to a show at the weekend on her own, she's a bit sharp anyway so we have been giving her some calmers. She wasnt too much trouble to load but thats when the fun started. She kept rearing every time we stopped and on the way back from the show she was much worse, the rearing starts as soon as we put the ramp up.

She was delivered to us in a lorry by herself and seemed ok. I am hesistant to put anything else in a trailer with her as she was quite dangerous and i dont think another horse there would really help her, its almost as if she goes into a blind panic. So we are going to have to go down the lorry route perhaps with a bit of sedation, we are going to hire one and see how she goes in that.

Sorry ive not been much help but just wanted to let you know you're not alone in this one!!

Is the breeching bar high enough? I've heard of problems arising where horses can sit on it a bit which makes them lose their back legs, so would it be worth raising it, or is it on the top fixing already?

Please please do not get in the back with them no matter how short the distance is!! You are putting yourself in a really dangerous position. A girl at our yard did this and ended up getting crushed when her gelding totally freaked - and they were only trundling down the lane from the yard. Luckily she managed to haul herself out of the jockey door, very battered and bruised. It is illegal to travel inside while the trailer is in motion and I expect your insurance would be null and void if the insurance company became aware of it.

You could try hiring a small lorry or trailer that is designed to carry the horses facing backwards. My horse when I brought him was a solo trailer traveller because he had been in an accident some years before. He liked to put the side of his bottom on the back tail gate and spread his legs. I now have a 3.5 ton lorry where he travels rear facing and I can put the partition across and travel other horses with him.

So should I raise the back bar and try him in neater then???

i know the dangers of being in the trailer with them and OH was on the fone with me via his headset so all security measures available were taken.:)

All you can hear in the car is the crashing and banging and its worrying when you dont know what is happening and cant tell someone to stop as you dont know whats happening.

I have tried him in a lorry and he is worse he just cant do sideways at all for sum reason.

Sounds far too familiar!

I tie short, use a calmer and drive like a snail! I have found with my bad traveller another horse does help matters, not only from a support side of things but also it seems to make a difference with the weight distribution of the trailer.

See thats what i thought as although he was crashing and banging the trailer was not swaying as much as she was there to balance it out.

Or am i being a numpty again lol!!

Going to try them again tomorrow and if it fails then I am a one pony tow-er lol!!

my arab had an accident in a trailer (his friend at the time lent against the partition and fell on top of him) :(

Anyway he wouldn't load at all - then I bought a little lorry for my mare to travel in and he went up on that sweet as a nut - suppose it didn't remind him f what happened as he was loading differently.

Could you prehaps ask a friend with a lorry to travel him just around the block for a few times so he can start relating travelling with good experiences again?

If this isn't possible then yeah I'd go with a seditive (try oxyshot a friend of mine used it and your still ok to ride on it)

good luck
