Basically I would like to have a home bred foal this year, either out of my advanced mare or my 3yo. Obviously embryo transfer is really the only option for my advanced mare as we are aiming to go 4* this year.

I was going to wait for a bit longer but have now found out that the stallion I want to use (Calypso d'herbier) might be standing in the UK this year, so I would get to see him in the flesh etc.. I was going to inquire further about ET until some one on the stud where I keep my 2 mares suggested me putting my 3yo (who is by the same sire as my advanced mare (Rock King) out of a 4* mare) in foal to this stallion instead. And it be either her foal or my advanced mares ET foal.
What are peoples thoughts? What would you do?

Could you do your 3yr old mare in 08, and then your Adv mare next year if he throws nice stock?

If your Adv mare is getting a bit older it may be nice to ET her now rather than later

Wow!well I guess you might as well go for the embryo transfer!
Life is too short- so I think a foal out of connie shoud def always be first priority!

Tricky. I think I would use your 3yo as a recipient mare for ET from te Adv mare this year.
You never know what is around the corner and it sounds as though you would really regret not having one from your Adv on the ground. A friend of mine lost her 3*/4* mare before being able to breed from her which was really sad.

Yes I think ET from my mare is what we are seriously considering this year. Mum has decided against using the 3yo and we will use another recipient mare instead. Very exciting!

Wow - there's a nice problem to have!

I agree that you should ET your advanced mare while you have the chance - one never knows what can happen.

I would not use your 3yo as an ET recipient - she sounds too good for this.

But perhaps you could put your 3yo in foal as well? That way, she can have a foal before embarking on her performance career, and you will not be faced with ET decisions (and expense) further down the line...

Yey, have one from both and they can then be play mates

i'd ET the advanced mare. i waited until i retired mine, bred one foal from her, lent her to a friend to breed a foal, and before i could have her back she had to be PTS, nothing the vets could do. gutted now that i don't have more youngstock from her, very angry with myself for missing the chance.
very best of luck this year with your 4*!

B_J that wouldn't work. A. risky when you can use a surrogate and B. when ET'ing you need alot of mares whose seasons are timed similar to your own mares.

I would use CdH on the 3y.o this year and then if it was nice ET the Adv mare (as she is only 10 this time isn't she?) the following year.
