I'm, having a "discussion" with someone on facebook who is advising another person to "part cook or microwave" the raw bones for their dogs to soften them up.
My arguement is she cannot see how any cooking can affect those bones internally as bones are all different in their structure, no two will act exactly the same with cooking. To advise someone else to "part cook or microwave" a raw bone is irresponsible, suppose that person doesn't know how long or to what intensity to cook that bone, unlike her who has been doing it for years and over cooks them, then how would she feel if their dog ate a bone that splintered?
I'm waiting for the reply!

What are your thoughts, do any of you risk part cooking bones or microwaving them or is it just me that thinks it's a bad idea?

NEVER. Not even a little bit, its blindingly obvious that cooking say a chicken bone does not soften it at all- look at a roast chicken carcass- HARD, when raw- SOFT

Scary stuff!

There will always be differences of opinion on pretty much everything- but even a part cooked bone is harder than a raw one- its not rocket science, its visible/palpable..... oh and do PM me her transcript- could do with a chuckle......

Never, never, never even part cook a bone! I'm sure I read something somewhere about microwaving being even worse as it affects the bone structure even more, but as ever I cant remember the details or where I saw it :D Why would you want to soften bones? My whippety lurcher can manage big bones with ease now, for that matter my cat will eat rib bones if the fancy takes him!
