Was out a hack tonight with horsey, two wee girls had asked if they could pat out horses and as mine is a bit of a grumpy mare we suggested that they pat my friends not so sour faced gelding. I waited for them a few yards up the road about ten feet from a T junction. All was fine both horses were relaxed and happy when we heard a great big tractor coming out way. Now as my horse is great in traffic I wasnt worried but I did hope that they were going to slow down. They didnt, they flew past the junction very fast, they must have doing a good forty five milee an hour in a built up residential area with a thirty mph speed limit. Now they seen me and the ned at the junction and rather than slowing down they sped up!!! Now my horse seemed calm but just as the tractor passed us she did a VERY sharp 180 spin. I managed to sit it much to my friends amazment. Now the more I think about my mares reaction the more it puzzles me, it was very calculated. She was not scared, she was perfectly relaxed before the spin and straight after the spin, now in my experience when a horse has such a sharp reaction to something they are normaly on theirs toes afterwards for a while, she happily turned to head back for home with no hesitation. She carried no fear or tension even straight after and she happily walked home passing all traffic with no issues. Now as a welsh D ahe is a very clever wee horsey and is the type of wee mare that when you get her on your side she will do anything for you. Is it possible that she thought that she was protecting us?? After the spin she could quite easily have got rid of me but she didnt she waited for me. So what do you think was she at it or did she think she was getting us out of trouble?? As soon as she realised that the tractor was going straight on she stopped.
