On this mare? Going to look at her on Wed, for a JRN type Prospect for me. I'd be getting her as a schoolmistress who can jump big fences, and I can deal with the flatwork (with my instructor)
Her BE name is 'Virtual Lady' so if you wanna see her record, go ahead.

I trust you guys' judgement, and I'm awar her SJ is sometimes a bit ropey, but her rhythm is lovely, and she takes XC in her stride, well.

So yes, I am excited!!!

Sounds nice!, apart from the show jumping which sounds abit 'ropey' as you said.......a pole down can mean the difference between coming 1st and 10th in some competitions!!!!!!

Having got one with a showjumping record v similar to that it is heartbreaking! Depends what level you want to do, as advert says fab PN horse but may struggle to be competitive at JRN, but then cheaper than many JRN horses.

In the nicest possible way, as a teenager who has, I think, competed to PN, you are definitely an amateur!

That said the mare looks nice enough, and if it is experience at a higher level you want she could be perfect. If you want to be winning every time out at JRN then you will probably need to spend considerably more money!

I don't think her SJ is dreadful, it's ok, could be better, could be worse. Knowing the events she has done though, I would say there is an indication that she is less keen when the going is very wet:

Powderham N 08 - bottomless - E XC
Chepstow N 08 - wet - R after dressage
Dauntsey 08 - deep going esp in SJ as v wet - R on the XC
Aldon 08 - wet - 20 penalties XC

I would also question why they are marketing her as a PN schoolmistress as it does not look like she is struggling with the height at N.

Finally - although Magic_Magpie has a point, equally it could be down to the rider - my horse has never been placed at Novice, he's had about 12 runs with me - and the problem isn't him, it's my riding. He went on loan for 6 months and in that time he did 4 events, 2 PN and 2 N - the girl loaning him had never competed at novice before or in fact completed a BE event before - so mine has proven his worth as a schoolmaster I'd say, despite not having ever been placed at Novice. Although winning is nice (so I've heard!), gaining experience at the level on something safe that knows its job is worth a lot too....

Sorry, I totally agree I'm an amateur, I phrased it wrong

I don't necessarily want to win at that level, just gain experience, hence why I'm looking for a schoolmistress/master, who could at least get round the XC most times out.

I think what you said about ground was a very viable point, I shall really bear that in mind, as there looks to be a correlation.

Thanks for your help

Umm, hang on ...that rider is missing the horse at absolutely every single fence on that XC. I would say that Im absolutely not surprised that its racked up that many SJ faults, as the rider, cant quite see a stride, nor has the knowledge/balance to hold it together. I would say that is a VERY genuine and lovely mare to carry on jumping the way it has, and if you know how to jump, and can see a stride, and have good training, and place the mare deeper into fences from a rounded stride- I think that this horse;s record would improve considerably and could be successfull at Novice.

I agree she would be an excellent schoolmistress, as she is used to helping out the rider and will , hopefully, with training encourage her next jock to ride more effectively but at the same time not get upset and start stopping every time the jockey makes a whoopsy.

Go for it if you click with her- I think she would be a fabolous buy

Purely by chance I happened to go to each of those events either with my horse in the N or as a spectator last year, it's the only reason I know all that!

For experience at the level she looks like she could tick the box - things to note about what I have said though - Powderham was horrific going that year, my horse is completely unfussy about ground and will run in wet or on solid ground and he HATED it, so don't hold that against her too much. Equally Dauntsey is one of the biggest N tracks in the area, and if she is already not keen on wet ground, it could just have been too much of an ask for her. It isn't necessarily something that would put me off completely, just a question I would want to ask when looking and something I would bear in mind when making a decision - if I am right (which I fully accept I may not be as the results only tell half the story), then are you happy to w/d if the going is not to her liking?

I was trying not to say that because I thought it would be a bit mean if the person happened to see this thread as they are clearly young....hence my 'rider' comment

Looks a very happy sort going XC, i like her rhythm and she really is looking for every next fence....go and see her and see if you like her!

I think she looks hugely cute, love her attitude and her cleverness in sorting herself out
smile.gif
Sounds like she could be ideal for your requirements - good luck and let us know
smile.gif

yes it does look sweet. anyway you can tell Spratt me and table dancer will come and duff him up if he tells you any lies as it is in his yard.......
smile.gif

in the video she seems to shake her head about into a fence and there seem to be because of this a few dodgy jumps!!
i would be wary of her showjumping though- if you want to be taught the ropes, a horse thats consistently knocking showjumps is not going to be the best one to do that! i would go and see her- no harm done, but i think if you want a schoolmaster then i wouldnt be going for something thats knocking fences down a lot of the time...
i would also agree the rider is not helping her out, but if neil spratt is riding her that will have improved her i should think (hes one of my PC instructors- very good!

Lol.

He seemed very genuine on the phone - told us it was a bargain if you were a competent rider! Said she'd go round Novice till the cows cam home, which is sweet.

I'm really looking forward to it now!

And SC, it shouldn't be a problem WDing, TBH, as I think if I really liked her, and got her, I'd be doing what was best for my horse, and that's what matters.

Hi all, not sure if you get a notification for me replying to this very old thread but I now own this horse! I am trying to contact her previous owner... If you do see this I'd love to speak to you.

Are you having a good time with her? I know none connected with this horse.. just reading through thread= didn't realise it was old till I just saw your post!

I haven't had her long. I bought her for pennies... Just this evening had a google of her name and I'm gob smacked at what she used to be like. She's 17 now but acts like a 4 year old. Trying to contact any old owners as I'd love to know more about her past...

I don't compete.. but after seeing her video I think I may have to start!

I looked at her record and it seemed that she hasn't competed at all since this thread started - might be worth contacting Neil Spratt, if you contact BE and explain they will also possibly be able to put you in touch with the person who competed her as she still seems to be competing now.
