Ok, when I see many dressage riders they appear to have the "foot wiggle" as I would call it!! Now, is this an absorbtion of the movement or a tapping of the spur to encourage/keep momentum??!! If tapping of the spur how come they do not get spur marks!!! I believe it is an abortion of movement as some who do not do the "foot wiggle" instead appear to have a head nod (no absortion of movement)!!

my only thought on that is that people who nod their heads really annoy me!!! I think it stems from when i trained at Wellington and James (Burtwell) used to scream at one of the girls who was training with me for nodding her head!

What do you mean by foot wiggling? I'm intrigued!!

I tend to foot wiggle when schooling as I have my lower leg on most of the time and back up with 'the wiggle' lol

I'm guessing this isn't what you mean though?

Oooh me and my mum hate both! Mum doesn't ride though and is therefore less understanding but I keep checking with her that I don't do either! Its interesting what you say about the foot wiggle being an absorption of movement, I hadn't thought of that because to me it always looks like nag nag nag!

Are you talking about in the sitting trot?
I think an up and down movement is absorbing the movement whereas a sideways wiggle is an insecure lower leg.
I hate head nodders, they must get a really bad headache.

when i do sitting trot, i do the "foot wiggle", to me its an absorbtion of the movement. though i known somebody who rides in spurs who does this to get more momentum and responce out of the horse, they don't consistently do it and the horse doesn't get spur marks either.

yeah i agree with you..
i just think of that runner, who has that really bad head wiggle but it doesn't effect her running

Well, what I mean is when the lower leg ie from ankle down seems to look as if it is either going up and down or side to side. I have seen this with top dressage riders, and I know my foot albeit ankle does move but I feel that as this is a joint and a horse is moving we too have to move and absorb the up and down movement... similar to if you were bouncing a ball your hand would move up and down because if your hand remained still it would have an impact on the movement of the ball... does that make more sense or am I dribbling!!!

Head nodding too I hate! I think this is because the whole body is not absorbing movement and the just goes from the seat to the top of the head, hence the knod ???!!!

I think I know what you mean about foot wiggling and my idea of it is when its not just up and down absorption (like with a hand and bouncing a ball) but all over the foot - like its got a life of its own! To me it doesn't just look like up/down or side to side but as if they're absorbing movement and trying to use about 5 different ways to enforce their leg...
