Took Rose off to AM Dressage, boot camp for me really as she just takes a bit of advantage of my lack of confidence. I had totally lost the trot/canter trans! Just brilliant, I am so pleased I went as I have come back feeling so positive. Rose is very easy to take away from home, travels well and settles in without a problem but is noticeably a bit more "needy" with me which is nice as she's a bit of an Alpha mare.
My first lesson was a testament to why we were there, Rose was behind the leg, not on the bit and I was pretty useless. we worked on getting the neck supple, is she "round" enough and in front of the leg. such simple things but so key. By the end of the lesson we were popping into canter from trot, canter a bit then trot a few strides then back into canter. No bucks or arguments but goodness me it wa quite hard work.
Second day, I came in with a much more positive attitude and right from the start was a bit more demanding in terms of acceptance of my aids and she went well. Today was just great! Right from the start she was in front of the leg, soft and supple and nicely "on the bit". I felt I rode better, my hands were much more still and the trot /canter trans were accurate, in fact all the trans felt so much better. However, at one point I asked for a t/c trans just as the only other horse was leaving the school and she stopped and gave the tiniest hump and with a kick and a smack down the shoulder it was dealt with and she went on to do some really good work. She is such a super mare I am so lucky to have her but she does expect me to ride reasonably well and if I don't well i pay the price!
