Three killed at TT races.

gosh thats very sad, i have never heard of spectators being killed, my mates are out there at the moment, and am gonna text them now to make sure they are ok, paranoid now!

The North West and TT are seen as the two most dangerous races in the road racing circuit and you only compete at them if you want to, as in it's not mandatory for points etc.

Whilst I have every sympathy for the families of the rider killed, what about those of the spectators? If you want to risk your life for the thrill of riding extremely fast on ordinary roads that is up to you. I think that it is wrong that spectators are put at risk. I don't think the race should be banned but I do think more safety precautions should be in place for both the riders and the spectators.

Spectators are also aware of the risks involved in watching (I also heard one killed was actually a marshall?) There are sections you are not allowed to spectate at and you're only allowed within a certain distance of the track.

I've not been to the TT, only to the Manx GP - both as a pure spectator and as part of a race support team but not for some 17 years now. There are many times more spectators at the TT than the Manx but even at the Manx there are dozens of spectators who position themselves in the most stupid of places, hanging out over the track or perched up on banks with a crate of beers. The track is so long that it cannot be policed all the way round - some spots are difficult to get to but people will do it if they are determined. I've seen people so pissed that they've fallen from their advantage point into the track - remember a lot of the people will then get on their bikes and ride back to where they are staying.

The spectators are well aware of the danger of the sport; for many that's part of the attraction. To say that the racers or organisers are putting the lives of the spectators at risk is as ridiculous as saying that football is too dangerous for specatators - sure there are disasters but mostly it doesn't happen. Far more people have been killed watching football than watching racing whether car, motorcycle or horse!

I have some experience of the TT and each year it is not "if" someone is kiled, but "how many". Spectators and participants alike know the risk - which is also why it is one of the greatest races on earth.

Fatalities often happen on the day when everyone is allowed to ride the course - after the competition. Please don't start asking for personal choice to be taken away by more nannying. they could come after equestrian sports. We have riders from all ages taking part in an activity where people are killed every year.

Sympathies to the families and friends of those killed but their loved ones knew the risk when they turned up and probably is why they turned up.

I agree, the spectators are there knowing the risks! I used to go to the odd car rally on the forestry tracks near me - obviously there were no safety barriers or anything there but we were just careful NOT to stand right on a corner for example!!

It is very sad, but it has to be expected. People were there watching a dangerous sport where there ARE crashes. I think the UK is going overboard with safety nowadays, we cant and shouldnt be wrapped in cotton wool.
