Can anybody tell me what the course is like? I would like to do a hunter trial there to end our xc season and it's either here or Larkhill, which is a longer journey for me. Am considering the 90cm course - not sure whether it's up to height or what variety of fences they have.

The limited number of photos on their website look good, but I think they are quite out of date and the jumps may well not have "aged" well (thinking about other courses I know!).

Sorry, can't offer much in return - I have a banana, a pear and a plum on my desk :(

Not sure what it will be like as its a schooling place mostly! I would say it won't be a too up to height course as majority of fences are small but a couple of bigger style fences. The course has ditches. Water x2, steps up and down which all can be added in. (Never seen a comp there!) there are no 'spooky' fences unless they decide to dress them as all same colour wood! I think for 3' they could have good selection of fences like the corner, small trak etc but who knows!

I have been and schooled up there, echo the others, not too much up to or over height for a 90cm. should be a nice friendly course if the schooling fences are anything to go by, all very rustic. Having not been anywhere since Mattingley when I made a mess of the XC, I am actually just about to enter for the 90 myself :-))

i've been schooling there a few times, wouldnt say the 90 would be up to height but could be quite tricky depending where they move the jumps to as nearly all are portable, im going to enter the 90 too see you all there :)

Many thanks for the comments, sort of what I expected. Water, steps, ditches are fine but I tend to mess up at trakehners (horse is OK) - so good practice for me! May make last minute decision on where to go depending on weather/ground as the forecast for this week isn't nice reading, haven't seen long term forecast. Managed to miss the horrible weather at Larkhill yesterday but ran into it on the A303/M3 instead - really not nice to be driving in.

Trak really isn't a horrid one. It's a grass dip rather than a deep man made ditch which is what the other ditches are there. Was at larkhill yesterday it was horrific! Not sure if the ground will hold up (though was suprisingly good yesterday) if the weather keeps on like this as there is the araht this weekend as well.
And also should say the BVRC ht tend to books up every year last year turned away 50 entries.

I would add that it is a well maintained course, all the fences are in good order and take off/landings were fine when I went a couple of weeks ago.

agree ground has always been very good when i've been seems to be a naturally well draining course :)

Agree with Merry VB that the trak is a simle one - up against a hedge on one side with an over grown grassy undulation underneath! your over it before they realise its there - this is coming from some one who detests trakeners, even the little one at pinkmead gives me the heeby jeebees!!

this is me too!
no idea why I worry about them. !! Hope to see lots of you there, sent off my entry yesterday ( friend of friend is the Sec.) and I have been told the 90 is booking up fast !

Fingers crossed it stays reasonably dry on Sunday (and between now and then...) I'm in the Open class, hoping for a nice confidence giving course after a slightly sticky round at Larkhill BE a couple of weeks ago - possibly explained by the fact that her back was a bit sore again. A visit from the physio should have sorted that out I hope.

Good luck guys. I'm off back to Larkhill to have a spin round the Open - they should be using the BE100 course which will be our first time at that height since end of 2011 - eeeeek.

urgh yes don't go the BE route unsurprisingly that route claimed some victims the other week!! BVRC normally use the left hand route following the back of camp which is relatively unscathed pot holes wise. I've not braved the other routes yet for fear of getting lost haha

I'm not sure I could find the alternative route in - it was one thing finding my way out but I don't know if I'd find it again from the other direction. Those potholes were awful - I managed to survive them 3 times! SC - will it be signed which way to come in?

Yes, I am doing the open class and am too hoping for a confidence giving course and a planning a nice steady round to end the season, after having done nothing much this summer since Mattingley , due partly to not being very motivated and also daughters pony club commitments!!!

had a jump round a few sj's in the field on my boy last night and he is feeling very well, so am quite looking forward to it now .....famous last words ..lol

hope to see you there!

are you both competing this weekend?

i will be there for the novice with my mum and am doing the open with mine :)

oh dear! been a long day! dont know how i managed to miss it!

good luck all! i will no doubtedly be on a wild best leaping around the warm up and struggling to get through the water!
