I've been umming and ahhing as to whether or not I should post this.

The bottom photo disgusts me, I let my pony turn into a great big tub of lard and just couldn't see it. It took until he had serious laminitis.

However the change in him makes me feel incredibly proud of what I have achieved with him and the truly incredible difference both physically and mentally in him.

There is nearly three years between these two photos. The first two years was just soaking hay and restricting feed and turnout. The past year especially has contributed to the way he is now.

The horrible thick crest, the gutter down his back and the fat pads have all gone. I do still feel he could tone up even more but this is the best he has ever been and it's onwards and upwards from here.

People seem to be getting a serious bashing over weight at the moment but with blood sweat and tears this is what you can achieve...

I'm not going to judge you at all, I just wanted to say a huge well done for what you have achieved. He looks so much healthier and happier, I think that every owner of an overweight horse needs to PM you for some advice!

Onwards and upwards :)

I had a mare come to me a few years ago, and she was seriously porky, but I have to admit I didn't do enough to help her lose weight to start with. This is her shortly after she arrived

And this is her this week - it's not a very attractive photo really, but just that it shows off her lovely tum and bum! :)

What a transformation..Well done you and the pony for putting in the hard work...I know how rewarding it is when you finally reach that goal and the horrid Lami has been kept at bay..Keep it up..

Wow well done you and your pony! Fabulous achievement.

I know how guilty you feel OP - I let the same happen to my 16hh Harry last year - luckily he seems to have made a full recovery and is now a much healthier weight. At least neither of us will make this mistake again! Well done.

OMG - you are a miracle worker! That doesn't even look like the same horse, although I don't doubt you.

OP, your pony looks lovely and so much better too.

Tobiano - exactly! I am so critical of his weight now I have to be careful not to give him a complex!

Thanks everyone, it's awful and cruel that I let him get in that state but the change was so worth everything. The turning point was coming home one February morning about to ring the vets to have him put down. I was so lucky he pulled through.

He loves work now, his little ears prick as soon as he sees his cart and you can see his little hooves dancing under his stable door :)

Abbeygale - it's amazing the change in them isn't it?
