Hi to cut a long story short, had a cob & pony, cob died suddenly in Feb, pony on own for a few weeks, loaned another pony (coloured) to keep him company, then 6 weeks ago bought another horse for me to ride. Now new horse & coloured pony are best of friends and original grey pony very left out & bullied by big horse to the point where I'm thinking he was better off on his own even though he seemed depressed. Original grey pony had a close bond with the cob who died & I honestly think he's grieving/depressed. He whinnies when I take either new horse or coloured pony out but there seems to be no bond in the field - they just pick on him & bully him :-(
Any suggestions/helpful tips?

Oh dear - horrible when that happens. Can you split your paddock and put the bullied one in on his own so he's still got company but not at risk of being injured?

I've had this with my mare, had a TB come back to me after 2 yrs, mare had never met the TB, but my lad seemed to recognise him, mare decided to chase TB off from HER boy, poor TB was bullied at every turn, every time I was close enough and she lunged at him, I would smack her nose, not hard, but firm, then I would make a fuss of the TB, making the mare back away by growling, ever had a 17hh horse hide behind you?
Then I bought a 13 2hh coblet, who within an hour of arriving was accepted, not sure if it was the coblet or my lad that opened the gate seperating them, but one of them did, the mare has calmed down and the coblet has befriended the TB, so peace reigns once again

Don't know if it's possible but can you keep him in a separate field where he can see the other two but they can't bully him?

Am having to do this with my one, cause he IS a bully and is fighting with the other two quite badly. He is a little mopey by himself, but speaks to them across the fence and they graze alongside, and I'm not coming up to a new rug shredded every day and the other two horses with new wounds...

Do you need the loan pony any more now that you have bought another horse?
Would sending the loan pony back and keeping your pony & new horse together to see if they get along not be an option?
