hi i think ,my horse has thrush in her feet i picked them out tonight and they r very smelling however there is no black discharge. I have read on here that horses need to be stabled however my mare will not be stabled any ideas as to what i should do? I though t of scrubbing feet with iodine and then spryain with purple spray?
Any advice will be greatfully received.

Thrush is usually caused by standing in wet, dirty bedding. I would scrub with an anti-bacerial wash and spray with purple spray, as you suggest. That's what my blacksmith has always said anyway.

thanks deeble, i dont know how my horse has contracted it she lives out and my paddock is dry although the mornings are damp now!i will do this then and c what happens thanks for your advice.

you dont necessarily need to stable a horse with thrush, just pick out the feet and treat with antibacterial solution and they should clear up fine

Thrush is not always caused by horses standing in wet dirty bedding! It is a bacteria which lives in the soil. (Although of course standing in wet dirty bedding isn't good for a horse's feet either).

Don't use hydrogen peroxide, it kills healthy tissue as well as the bad. If ours get thrush we scrub their feet with diluted Hibiscrub (one cap to a pint of water) making sure it foams, and gets into all the frog area and the white line. Then spray with Net Tex Frog Health disinfectant. Brilliant stuff, normally knocks thrush on the head within three days.

Scrub well with Hibiscrub, let dry and then spray on NetTex Healthy Frog ( I think its called) - brilliant stuff! Ive used it on my horses feet and its really excellent, was advised it by my friend whos horse had thrush for years and had tried everything but this was the only thing to work.
