My TB now has thrush - weapy and yucky. He cant wear shoes as he has bruised soles and is wearing Old Macs boots for part of the day. I understand that the boots will not be helping as mud and wet does get in but if he doesnt wear them he is going to be footsore and his feet will be standing in the mud without any protection. I have cleaned then with hibi-scrub and sprayed with purple spray whilst I work out what to do next. Any suggestions guys?

Nettex Healthy Frog - Brilliant stuff! Lots of people I know who have tried everything else found this stuff to be the only thing which helped thrush. I use it with success. Are you able to bring him in for part of the day or onto some sort of hardstanding? That would be best to let his hooves dry out and so you can treat them.

Contact your vet. As dingle says there is an excellent spray used for foot rot in sheep. Can't remember the name offhand but its purple (but not purple spray) and the vet should just sell it to you if you pop into the surgery. 1 application pretty much gets rid of thrush. I have also heard of using a solution of milton to treat thrush as you can use a syringe to flush out cracks if there's a flap of frog which can't be cut off but which harbours nasties if you see what I mean. There is also cleantrax as advertised on justines site but is fidly to use and propably more appropriate for something more serious like white line disease

Oxytetrecycline is used for foot rot and is fantastic for thrush, you need to get it from the vet. When Ralph had it in one foot, I used to clean it with iodine, dry it off well and then use the oxy spray, it should clear up quite quickly.

Peroxide is really good for clearing up thrush - Then as a preventative use stockholm tar - sticks to the hoof, keeps it clean and has antibacterial benefits!
