Well at least i think its thrush?

My gelding lives in 90% of the time. Just recently, i think he has developed thrush. His frogs are disapearing slowly, and its smelly.

What is the best treatment for this? I have read about bleech, iodine, all sorts? I want too get him sorted out asap.

I have scrubbed them with milton tablets disolved in water, and put efonol (sp?) frog protector on? Could i put something on cotton wool and tape in in the foot?

Get an old washing up liquid bottle and rinse it well. Then fill it with water and something like hibiscrub, after you have picked out his feet, squirt some of this solution into his feet and it will quickly clear up. I do it 50:50. You can also buy solutions from your feed store specifically to get rid of thrush.

Make sure the mixtures are not too strong, or you can kill he good tissues and the thrush just feeds on it and doesn't go away.

Sudocream is quite useful if you want to pack the frogs with something - that is medicated baby cream, buy from Boots/supermarket.

In the past I've used hydrogen peroxide solution bought from the chemists. Think about 3-6% strength. However, others on here have found it difficult to buy now. Shame because it really worked. Just picked out feet and then poured a small amount on affected area or used an old syringe to get a better aim.

I use that stuff even if I only smell a hint of thrush in his feet.Although warning it stings if you get it in your eyes lol
I think it costs under a pound so v cheap,If you need some and cannot get it ill post it to everyone lol

Not sure of the form on here, is it ok to give name of company supplying products? - we get hydrogen peroxide by post in 2.5 ltr containers - good value for money.

My cob use to have Thrush until we were advised to use hydrogen peroxide (cheapest place to buy this is in any pharmacy) *wear rubber gloves* get a small sryinge fill it hold the leg up for about 2 mins making sure the hoof hasdisolved the hydrogen peroxide

Kaso!

Netex frog health is brilliant stuff.

I have also used Hibiscrub solution in the past and that works too but I found the frog health stuff so easy to use, just squirt it on.

I had problems with my mares feet when she was turned out on pasture previously grazed by sheep, when it rained her frogs started to disappear and they smelled! Funny as it never happened on any other pasture! Think there is something in sheep urine that can affect some horses feet!?

Anyway I used as some others have mentioned Hydrogen Peroxide 5% and it worked wonders.

Hydrogen peroxide initially and then keep the foot picked out very regularly and purple spray the frog

Thrush is an anerobic bacteria and the worst thing you can do is plug the feet. To get rid of thrush you need to expose it to the air, ie picking out thoroughly and regularly

wash in tea tree shampoo coz it is anti fungal then dry well and spray idion solution on them keep them reguallry trimmed and pick at least twice a day!

Normally my Welsh gets it every year! However this year we put him on shavings which helped but also had to shoes off whilst not in work and that also seemed to help??? Not sure why??? And pleased that this year he has suffered at all!!

My lad had it very badly in the back feet.

My farrier said it was due to im having very upright back feet and a hell of alot of growth.

He reccomended purple spray.

I pick feet out before ridden, then after i pick them out brush them dry them and then spray them with purple spray, his feet are much much better

hope it clears up
